Location of neutral safety on 1987 Grand Wagoneer?

I am trying to get my old '87 started. After replacing the battery, the car would start, but now that is is the middle of winter here in Chicago, the car won't even turn over. I am 90% sure that the neutral safety switch is stuck, because jiggling the gear shift made it so i could start it once.

Problem is, I cannot find the neutral safety switch! Anyone know where it is?

727s have the neutral safety switch mounted on the driver's side of the transmission pan rail, just behind the shifter arm.
Look for a round black plug with thee wires going into it.

The NSS can usually be removed with a large crescent wrench (Or even ChannelLocks god forbid) should you not have wrenches larger than 3/4".

I'm pretty certain they are using the GM NSS that goes on the topside of the column near the brake pedal. If your linkage has worn bushings, your selector may be out of position. hold the gear selector lever as far up as posible and try to start it.

Is this an auto? Coluum shift ? Turbo 400 trans ?

If so, I think there is a switch at the bottom of the coluum. 2 wire plug, on the tunnel side.

I suspect the is why moving the coluum shifter made it start - of course, I am guessing since it's hard to figure out via email !

              Good Luck !

Great, thanks for all the help guys. Now that I can find the NSS, I am having a new problem. The starter will run, but because it is so cold it is hesitant to start. Once I let off the starter, the NSS gets stuck again. Is there something that can be done to remedy this?
