I know this has been asked many times before. This is just for the heck of it. What do you prefer offroad an Automatic or a manual with a granny gear.
Auto or Manual

Auto. Need one hand free for cig or camera
really it depends what kind of offroading. I like my stick truck for clumping around dirt and sagebrush. I love the auto in the cherk for ascending and descending mountains.

i've always wheeled with an auto, but i never liked how i didn't have as much control of the vehicle even though i'd always keep it in 1st gear. so i've gone with a manual that has a nice deep granny gear. hopefully i won't regret it.
i'm not sure what my final crawl will be but it would be nice to have it low enough that i can drop the clutch and have it idle forward. then you never have to worry about stalling.
if i was only a mudding guy i'd have stuck with an auto for sure.

I've got both and I prefer the auto. Less to deal with constantly, and sometimes is nice to have both hands on the wheel, or my drink (a full one will spill in the cupholder at angles)1979 Wagoneer QT 360 4" BDS Lift

Its personal preference. But I *REALLY* prefer a manual for the terrain that we have around here. Lots of steep trails. And with a manual, I never have to relly on my brakes for decending, and I can just creep up a hill at a nice low rpm is required. And I can choose any gear and have it just stay in that gear. Plus, practically zero drive drain power loss (you get 20-25% with an auto). Oh yeah, and no overheating issues :P Oh, and water.. no problem.
But if I was doing sand or mud, it would be an auto for sure.
