TH400 Transmission Options

I am looking for transmission options and other folks experience with commercially available TH400 transmissions (coupled with quadratrac transfer case).
I need to get my 79 Chero on the road in the next few weeks and am looking at one of two options:
1) I could take a back up TH400 to a local shop for a quick rebuild
Or
2) I could go buy a commercial unit from someplace (Monster? Etc)
I eventually want to build up a 400 HP 400 ft.lbs 401C.I. engine I have. For this I figure I need a pretty hefty transmission. So with option 2) I could just go buy that transmission now and run it behind the 360C.I. engine I am building up.

TH400 is a pretty hardy transmission.
In fact the dodge Hellcat trac-pac car uses the TH400.

Based on all the input I think I

TH400 is rebuild able by a garage handy man. Look it up on youtube and google it. There are MANY how-tos. There are a couple specialty tools you need but I have found if you bring it to a shop, they will usually use their tool for that step for almost nothing... or buy the tool on ebay, use it, put it back up for sale when you are done.
