    bumper mounts cut off

    I have 1976 honcho

    it has a wench bumper

wanted to put a regular FSJ bumper on

not the 3 piece factory type for 76

but the later one piece style

but when I looked at mount area

it appears the previous owner cut off the portion of the frame that extends beyond spring mounts.... where the 3 hole brackets usually go.

do you guys think a factory one piece can still be attached ? or am I stuck with the wench bumper ?

I guess someone with welding and fab experience could still make it work,...

did not know if anyone else has ran into this.

I know it would be better with photos

but I have still not figured that out.

As far as I know, the pre-1980 frames didn't have the horns off the front, they were flat from the factory. To use a later bumper, you'll need to create those mounts yourself.

was beginning to think there was a difference

never really liked the 3 piece bumper

but would use one if I had to.

      thanx for the information

kinda glad there is a chance nothing has been hacked off !

You shouldn't be bumping wenches with your truck anyway.

I really don't think it'd be that difficult to make brackets to use the later style bumpers. You could probably even grab a piece of "C" channel the right dimensions and use that and the factory holes on the frame.

If it is that pressing I have a junk chassis that I’m going to scrap anyway. It has good bumper mounts that could be cut off.

Not hard at all. Take a picture to a fab shop and they could set you up for [likely] $100 or less.

Perhaps he has a "winch" that lifts the "wench" up high where she would be out of danger. Still that's no way to treat a woman even if she is a "wench"

I can't hardly blame you. You surly heard or read others use it wrongly. It's a surprisingly common mistake.

I got a deal on the PTO winch set-up for my J20 because of this. The seller described it as a wench and the add didn't get the exposure it deserved.

After repeated corrections for the last twenty years my friend still calls a winch a wench.

                        another laugh.

                        thanx

sometimes the help I get here is not just for jeeps...

sometimes it is mental therapy in the form of a laugh.

I will surely spell something else wrong real soon.

When I swapped the chassis under my Cherokee (79) I cut the bumper brackets off and welded them to the front of the chassis (78). All those brackets are is C-Channel with some holes in it. I wouldn't bother buying donor brackets because they would be so easy for you to make. If you have a welder, drill and something to cut metal with (grinder, jigsaw, etc) you could make these in less than 30 minutes.

These are my 79 brackets welded to my 78 frame. The only holes "needed" and the 3 outer ones. I am not sure what the one on the bottom or the one in the middle are there for.

                            I agree rang
if the cut off pieces I am getting
                            have too much corrosion
or if I dont/can't use for any other reason

the C channel is a good idea
