Horrraaayyyyy!!!!

JeepinPete's motor mounts arrived and look great. Thanks again

Clean with new bushing and no (well almost no) rust.

Cleaned LQ4...but I think the vette oilpan will not clear the motor mounts well.

That's my BMW behind it. Very reliable car, great for junkyard runs up to Palm Beach (30 mpg)

Found this driveshaft on a mid 90's burb. I'm figuring the drivetrain is going to get pushed further back. Any reason this will not work except if the length is wrong? Stock on top.

Debating EGR....it looks like this manifold doesn't have EGR. I'm thinking no EGR, but keep carcoal canister/tank vent setup and maybe AIR injection (guess that's what the top port on the manifold is for. Later LQ4s didn't run EGR.) They make a very nice GM EGR block plate for the throttle body.

The 4L80e looked clean inside. Replacing pump seals and rear output seal. Did you know the pump bolts have little seals? I didn't....off to get more seals.

Last pic of the clean firewall. Might weld close holes after I figure what to run into the cabin.

Also got the YJ steering linkage, saw someone do it on a blazer, and then it just popped up on here.

Next plan is to get trans buttoned up, swap truck pan on and test fit engine and tranny.

Engine test fitted in. Pan looks a bit close to the dif, and the track bar seems a bit high (stock springs).

A tip for getting the new rear main seal on. It's sort of like getting a hub cap on. First get the seal around the hub in one spot and then use a very smooth flathead screwdriver to guide it the rest of the way around. Then place the old sela over top and use a 2x4 and hammer to tap it in.

Having a tough time getting the 4L80e rear case seal. No one has it here.

tbi system

Hey how much you want for that tbi system shipped to 71220? On another note have you test fit the transfer case? Was it from behind a 60 or 80 they have different size input shafts. Scott

OK, so had a bad couple of months. I wrecked the WRX at a decent rate of speed and went for a ride in the ambulance. I swear I will get patients cleared quickly for C-spine because that hurt worse than the accident. Anyways, I checked out OK, but the WRX is dead and all the work that went into it. RIP subie

Didn't feel like touching the Jeep for a good month and only recently got back to work on it. Got the drivetrain in and modified the crossmember. Cable shifter works, throttle pedal was bent to use stock LQ4 throttle cable, and I used the np241's shifter from a 90s suburban (no more flag shifter). Now I'm getting to the little stuff. (I'll post pics later)

Driveshafts:
-Front: I grabbed one out of the burb with the GM flat flange. It's about 1" too long when the driveshaft is fully compressed. I could move the engine back an inch, but the driveshaft would still fully compress when the front spring compresses. Better to just shorten it...right? I'm going to replace the u-joint as well. Which one does the front dana 44 from an 88 GW use? 1310? I'm completely ignorant about driveshafts. I think the chevy driveshaft uses a 1310.

-Rear: Haven't measured it yet, still have to remove the Jeep one. I've got a slip-yoke np241 and a driveshaft from a silverado. That's probably going to need shortening too.

Fuel:
Got some adapters to mate the TBI fittings to LS1.

Wiring:
Keeping almost all of the emissions except for EGR. Later LQ4s didn't have EGR and so....it goes. I have to find a way to mount the gas tank vapor pressure sensor. Then the evap system can work. Thought of a fuel tank swap, but don't want a rear tank.

Guages:
Don't know WTH to do. Contemplated swapping in an 08 caddy escalade cluster, but would need the body control module. More money. Or just get autometer electronic guages and make my own display. I don't really like the dakota guages and it costs too much.

Body:
Inside sloor cleaned up, de-rusted, and sprayed with primer, paint, and sound dampning material. Still want to clean up under the truck more and re-paint/sound dampen.

But it's coming together.
Got to sit in my unbolted seat, shift the ranny into drive and press the throttle to make vroom vroom noises.

Picture Time

Shifter from a 1995 Silverado

I ground out all the rust and painted it a bunch.

Used the adjustable TC linkage from from the same truck. It allows you to move the drivetrain forward and back.

All buttoned up. Still have to figure if I want to hook up the lights.

S-10 shifter cable with adapted bracket.

Cut off the rod from the NP229 shift linkage and welded it to the column shifter. Works well, I get all gears, but I would reduce how far it extends from the column.

Modified cross-member. Bolted in the rear position. I also extended it two inches for the ability to move the drivetrain back if I felt like it.

I started the exhaust, but there's little room on the driver's side. Any sugestions? I'm going to route it just under the junction of the Torque converter and the tranny pan. It's 2.5". Will I fry the converter with all the heat.

Also still have to figure out the U-joints. Also working on the wiring and making everything look tidy and clean. Computer sent off to wait4meperformance. $75

Has anyone used the GM driveshafts?

Going to mark them to get shortened and new u-joints. I think they use 1330s. 2-3011bf seems to be the part number.

Exhaust

Got the y-pipe finished up. I think it clears everything OK.

If I use the stock driveshaft I get more clearance. Any problem using a CV with the np241?

Next for a high-flow cat and a hooker maxflow mufler. I have them left over from the Subie.

Nice work!!

I did a 6.0L/SM465/241c swap into my TJ and am debating doing something similar for my J-20.

I will be following along. Keep the updates coming!

A 6.0 in a TJ must be awesome! I bet know one ever expects that to come burbling along.

So I'm conteplating have the exhaust exit in front of the tire. It would save some piping. Are there any reasons not to do this?

This weekend will be spent tidying things up and maybe getting the fenders back on. Computer should get here soon.

----can't figure out how to post youtube video----

Getting my driveshafts made up. Driveshaft guy wants me to ditch the GM saginaw front out put for a 1310 CV. Man that nut holding the old one on there is being a royal SOB. I'm about to get the welder out.

I'll post up detailed update later.

Ran into an issue with the np241c. My driveshaft guy wants to use the Jeep's stock double CV for the front driveshaft. I have to keep the distal end (toward front D44) small in diameter to clear the exhaust and steering.

I pulled the flat chevy flange off the np241 so that I could swap a 1310 CV yoke onto it. Well the through the hole length is ~3.5" not 2" like most replacements. What a headache!

Anyone have any ideas?

Perfect yoke would be a 1310 cv 32 spline 2" outer bore, 3.5" thru through the hole.

Maybe I'll wire in the OBD2 tonight and actually accomplish something!

So near...yet so far.

She drives!

the np241c had a hairline crack that I JB welded, but other than that....she's good.

I've wired in a silverado cluster (going to have to cut up the dash later to fit it in). It even has a tranny temp guage!

I'm working on the swap guide.....lots of info.

Well, glad to have it done in time to move to ABQ. Really excited to move. We're building a house with a three car garage! Glad to be moving somewhere nice.

Well, planning my next project. Lotus 7 with a LSx and corvette t56 in the back.

I did one little power start.....she squats and then goes real good.

The tranny shifts too slow and smooth for my tastes, but that can be changed.

I've hooked the dash cluster and BCM up from an 02 silverado and now have all functioning dash lights. This also give me the ability to hook up a tow/haul mode button.

I'm thinking of hooking up the gm headlight switch to get automatic lights and also wiring up the "driver information" so I an read out mpgs and compass and other useless stuff.

Spent the last two days ripping out old wiring from behind the dash. Cleared out lots of room.

I might drive it to the Keys this weekend.
