    New to the FSJ endeavor

Hello from NC! The wife wanted a "knockaround" truck to use while i was at work. I have been lurking here since we lost our minds and fell in love with a rust bucket. We found this beautiful monstrosity on CL. 81' J-10 with the 4.2L. It ran and had a new sending unit, carb, tires and fuel gauge. After a test drive we agreed to tak it of his hands for $750. Supposedly the 4wheel works but haven't tested it yet. Nothing like running this thing 50miles home down the interstate on a hope and a prayer! It made it, obviously. We know its been to PA and FL before coming to NC. I'm a rookie at auto repair but figure and 81 is better to cut my teeth on than something newer - I may regret saying that. No disillusions of creating a show piece, but I'd like to improve and prolong it's life.

Came with 3 dead batteries - put in a new one and a disconnect asap
Changed trans fluid...twice (lessons learned) - no metal in the pan
Replaced light switch and dimmer - lights work now.
Next: getting the horn and dash lights working.

We drive it on weekends. Is there a good replacement / substitute bench seat y'all would suggest?

I'll attempt to post photos here - we'll see how that goes. Look forward to joining you in the FSJ custodial world!

Nice - love those wheels! Looks like someone has done a little motor work - looks like it might have a 4.0 head and a weber carb? If so, bonus!
As far as the seat, not sure what else would fit, but luckily there's plenty of info here to search up. If there's no bad sags, a good seat cover would buy some time.
Good luck - it's great to see old rigs being driven and enjoyed instead of being crushed!

What a smokin deal!! Welcome to the group! Best grill on a J Truck right there!

Here's my advice; drive it, enjoy it for what it is; a fun knockaround truck. Fix the things that bug you or you "have" to fix. No mods/upgrades for the first year. These trucks can really sap your wallet and time if you are not careful but they are also some of the most rewarding to own!

I am not sure I have seen any bench seats that bolt straight across, either. You might be able to have it recovered for a decent price but I am with backroadin', I say order a cheapie seat cover for now. Like one of these:
