Can anyone tell me the difference between the PS boxes between the earlier '65-'69 Saginaws and the later '70 - 73, maybe later, parts book only goes to /73. Very different part #s. Will the later fit the earlier?
Difference between '65 - '69 PS box and '70 - 73?

I presume the OP means the steering gear, not the steering pump. Jeep calls this a "steering gear assembly." Pretty sure "steering box" is a colloquial term. I expect you could use either the Eaton or Saginaw pump for a Saginaw gear.
For power steering gears, the parts book just gives a part number, not much else. Since it was used through '69, I would also presume that it's a Saginaw type and not the 230-era Ross unit. I believe you can tell something about the unit from the numbers cast in to the housing, if someone on here has a representative unit they can look at.Last edited by tgreese; 10-22-2021, 12:07 PM.Tim Reese

I have a 1970 Wagoneer with the Buick 350. Is there anything I can do to help? My steering box has the adjustment on the top that I see with the Saginaw boxes. I am guessing that makes it a Saginaw ? If there is a part number, I can take a scrub brush and go looking or take pictures. My wagon was made 9/1969 and therefor is considered a 1970 model with the custom designation. Power steering and power brakes.1970 Wagoneer Custom (9/1969)

Sorry, I was down for a while but I am back. I will take a picture tomorrow and post. Do you want the brake pedal or power steering ? I am getting ready to put in the adapter on my brake pedal to move the brake switch from the bottom of the master cylinder to the inside brake pedal.1970 Wagoneer Custom (9/1969)

As far as I know they all use the same basic Saginaw 800 series steering box. The position on the frame changed in 72 to allow for the larger slanted AMC radiator. The boxes themselves are standard GM parts https://leepowersteering.com/pages/h...entify-gearbox
FWIW I swapped to a Camaro Z-28 box for quicker ratio and firmer response. There are 2 rules to success in life...
