    Vents, kick panel

    Working on a 69 J3500 pickup.

Heater cable would not move. Thought it was seized up but found pine neatles in the heater box.

The side vent also did not move. Cable was fine.
Remove the pass side and it was full also.
My question how far down does the opening go. does go all the way to the rocker panel.
I have most of it out but would like to flush what remains.

Don't remember how deep the well is but it's not too far. Keep digging/cleaning out the muck till you get to the bottom. then theres a drain hole that empties/drains between the inner and outer fenders. Run some wire through it to clean it before you use a garden hose.

The vent channel goes all the way to the bottom of the fender. From underneath you can see through when it's clean.

A number of people have put some gutter drain cover under the cowl to help keep leaves (and pine needles) out. Cut to fit, glue/screw it I and it looks good and is quite functional.

Install the screen on the cowl cover. Pull off the front fenders, about 10 bolts each, and take a 1.5 or 2.0" hole saw bit to the side of the bottom of the drain, never have problem again. Very easy to do.

I was thinking of just putting some window screen mesh in front of the blower intake since in the 70's cabin air filters were not yet a thing... is the location you're trying to explain effectively to the left of the blower housing?

Put the screen over the intake in the cowl. Right in front of the windshield. It is where there is already a grill. The grill just doesn't stop enough from falling in. You add a mesh screen on top of the horizontal slots on the existing "screen".

That'll only keep junk out of the heater. Won't help the fresh air vents.

                    Thanks everybody.

I got the vents cleaned out.
Will not be putting any screens in.

I am located in the high desert of New Mexico, just blowing dust.
