    J SERIES REAR BUMPER ENDS

There seems to be some confusion concerning the J truck black plastic rear bumper ends and a Scrambler end. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.

They look identical except that the J truck end is about 20% larger in evert respect. I personally reied to put an NOS Scrambler end on a J series bumper today and it is not even close to fitting. I have been told that the part number is the same by a reliable source. I can't explain it. I think that the Scrambler rear step type bumper looks like a J truck bumper but iit is smaller in scale. When I have all the pieces together I will upload photos to support this. In the mean time I need a pair of J Truck rear ends....... name yoiur price....

    Hey Joe,

If you can get a pattern, (may have to make it ) a reasonable reproduction could be made by vacumn forming, this could be done
semi cheap, I'll look at the ends on my garage queen J-10 tonight to
    see how involved they are.

Sounds like you have end caps for a step bumper from a Sportside J truck, those bumpers are taller. I have ones on my truck that came off scrambler step bumper that I got about 5 years ago from J&W Wreckers. The only difference is their placement on the ends of the bumper (right side one from a scrambler goes on the left side for the truck Townside Step Bumper and vice versa) due to clearance issues with the different rear quarter side shapes. If the ones you have are the same one for each side, not right and left, they probably are for the truck Sportside bumper and they are much harder to find.

I don't want to thread jack, but I would like to know what a stock bumper looks like for my 67 Gladiator looks like, as I cannot, for the life of me find a photo.

That size difference is really puzzling me also.

Several styles of dealer Jeep SE bumpers for Gladiators:

Braden, one piece wraparound...for shortbed 119" wheelbase (btw...I have this bumper for sale).

Not sure who makes this bumper...I've heard it called "dockside bumper".
Allows you to fold tailgate all the way down to load things....My personal bumper and favorite.

There was also a heavy duty Braden 3 peice bolt together wraparound rear bumper for Gladiator, which I have the NOS center section (still labeled Jeep SE) but not the ends.

And a non wraparound style with no ends.

THE ONLY EXPLANATION THEN S THAT J&W SENT ME AN 81 REAR BUMPER. THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THE ENDS DON'T FIT. THE ENDS I HAVE ARE THE 536 3170 AND 536 3171.

GREAT . I NOW HAVE A PERFECTLY REBUILT 81 REAR WHITE STEP BUMPER THAT I CAN'T USE.

Yep, glad U can draw conclusion....1981.. One & only year bumper ends...now that's going to be a hard find.

Didn't U ALSO get the slightly bowed Type II bumper from Red 87 J20 from Steve ?

Wow Joe that really sucks. I measured my re-chromed bumper and it's 4 3/4" tall same ht. as my painted one.

I can see the "wanted" section ad now ".....Have perfect 81 j truck bumper...need all other parts to complete build"...

Think of this, you could spec build an 81 J....from the rear bumper forward.

                          Sorry Joe....couldn't help it

                            REAR BUMPER

Dennis: Yes I have the 1987 rear with the funny bow in it from Maine. I suppose I will have them start on fixing it. Believe me my body guy can make it look like the day it was made. I just thought the one from J & W was a better one to start with. I never thought that the 81 was different. I also have the one on the 86 J-20 which I am currently plowing with up in NY. The bumper was bought new in 2000 for $165.00 from Jeep. It has been on the truck since then and the sad part is the truck has not gone over 2000 miles since then BUT one of my weekend guest one year attempted to help me plow and backed into a snow bank and bent the bumper. It has two decent ends also . I guess it will also be fixed and make a great spare.. I know of a nice one near me on the East Coast but he does not want ot sell it. I guess I am stuck with the 81 bumper, oh well it is really nice if someone wants it.

Snowshoe: that front grille guard look great since I had it blasted and powder coated to match the factory roll bar.
