    Grand Wagoneer tailgate weight

I recently installed a tailgate on my car and it nearly killed me just lifting it up. Has anybody weighed one of these? I want to see if I am just lame or if I can admit to people I hurt myself doing it without embarrassment.

Are you sure you got both torsion rods installed correctly?

You mean lifting it up off the ground to install it? My waggy's tailgate fully assembled took both me and my son to lift, and I'd guess it was 200lbs, mostly from the glass and motor/gears.
I stripped everything off my old one and tossed it (accident damage), and I was able to lift that empty shell myself, figured no more than maybe 60lbs, just in sheet metal.

Right, I was talking about picking it up from the ground and installing it, not just lowering and raising. The weight did something to my back and I was stuck in bed for a day.

I have never had it off the car but it certainly is very heavy just to swing it down or up. Are my torsion rods installed correctly, I don't know but they are there.

If your back continues to bother you, a chiropractor might be very helpful.

Tailgate shell completely stripped, bare metal: 58 lbs
              Motor/lift assy: 13 lbs
              Glass/lift bar: 15 lbs
              Hardware/wire harness: 8 lbs

Awkward bugger for one person to lift and move as a fully assembled unit.
