The six digit Engine Code is stamped on the pad at the right upper center of the block.

1st Digit - Year

2nd & 3rd Digit - Month

4th Digit - Type

A- 8.0:1 Compression Ratio, 258, 1971-1972

B- 7.6:1 CR, 258, 1971-1972

E- 8.5:1 CR, 232, 1970-1972

F- 7.7:1 CR, 232, 1970-1972

K- 7.5:1 CR, 232, 1965-1969

L- 8.5:1 CR, 232, 1965-1969

5th & 6th Digit - Day

Note: Prior to 1969 the Engine Code information was stamped on a tag on the front left side of the Baffle above the Intake Manifold. The top portion of the tag showed the as purchased Part Number. The bottom of the tag shows 3 digits below the build date as follows:

1st Digit - Bore Size

A- Standard

B- 0.010" Undersize

C- 0.010" Oversize

2nd Digit - Main Bearing Size

A- Standard

B- 0.010" Undersize

C- 0.010" Oversize

3rd Digit - Connecting Rod Bearing Size

A- Standard

B- 0.010" Undersize

C- 0.010" Oversize
