How to Check Your Fan Clutch

Contributed By: Chris Hollingsworth

The way to test a fan clutch is: Whith the engine cold, start the car, then shut it back off. it should take the fan a couple/few seconds to spin down. Do the same thing with the engine hot and it should stop very quickly. That's about all there is to it. I would have to think that the engine needs to be hot, not just warm so you might have to put a sheet or piece of cardboard in front of the radiator in order to get it hot (1/3 of the way into the green on the temp gague should do it).
