Phil and Alfred Go Fishing

August 1, 1997
The place: Chappaquiddick Island, Martha's Vineyard

Went over to MV for a weekend of surf fishing and much needed R&R. Had exchanged e-mails with Alfred Esposito of NEFSJ fame about getting together out there but never really set a meet point and time. Was cruising East Beach on Chappy late Fri morning after a night/morning chasing fishys, past by a nice Grand Wagoneer w/Conn plates going the opposite direction, when the driver shouts 'are you Phil Horton?

Non other than Mr. Esposito and his girlfriend. FSJ's of New England unite!

Parked the two Wags in front of Dyke Bridge for a picture. Alfred and his '89 are on the left. That's me on the right in front of my '88. Just behind Alfred's rig you can make out Dyke Bridge. For you history buffs, that's the bridge on Chappy where Ted Kennedy had his little 'mismap' all those years ago.

Had a chance to sit on the beach and chat for a couple of hours. We talked about getting together out there during the fall for the annual MV fishing derby. Soon to be posted on the site - a picture of Alfred and Phil in front of their FSJ's holding a couple of derby winners. Hope springs eternal :-)

take care
Phil
