alright i ahve a 360 and its smoking on one side the pan is leaking form its rear seal and shes in pretty hard shape what shooud i do rebuild it to road legal or turn into a trail rider
alos how dependable are the amc 20's rear ends i herd that the have an axle shaft problem! 1981 j10 2 tone bought in harpswell maine a few years back and started diggin and found some massive body work neede to be done. SALT WATER SUCKS! but one thing good about it though no holes in the frame like my 78 that i tore down and got rid of well except the t15 26 a which fell off my lift and not i need a new top for it hey if any of you got one that b great for a bargin cause i want a 3 speed insted of my 4 speed no clicking in reverse (4 speed).

You AMC 20 uses a once piece axle. Ignore all the little Jeep owners who tell you that YOUR AMC 20 is a piece of junk. It's not. It has none of the failings of the little Jeep version.

As indicated above, CJs were sent with 2-piece axles. Yours has 1-piece (stronger). I am not certain of the other CJ issues compared to yours... These were thin axle tubes that could bend and possibly "twist" in the housing. Many CJs combat this by stitch welding the tubes to the housing and adding a truss.

On a side note, many consider the '20 to be considerably stronger than a Dana 44 (once the above issues are addressed).
