Small vs. Large

Obviously this is kinda a bias crew
i previously owned 2 tj's one was a 99 and the other a 2005 both were lifted the 99 with a 3 inch and the 2005 with a 4 inch long arm
those things will go anywhere they are great

But i will say right now this new truck of mine is just flat out more fun to drive haven't had the chance to get her offroad yet but i cant wait

Hmmm

Hate to say it - but for "serious" four wheelin' - I'll take one of my short wheelbase Jeeps any day of the week.

However, as for pure "fun" - The FSJ sure hold thier own any day of the week.

I have read it here a few times that the FSJ has the same turning radius as the smaller jeeps... is that true I wonder? I have noticed that the FSJ has a great turning radius but I know the smaller jeeps have shorter wheelbase...

nice truck BTW!

I don't care what anyone says, the Full Size Jeep is, bar-none, the best general-purpose 4x4 out there.

I dont know, our 99 expedition will out turn my sis's 98 mustang, and my girlfriends 03 stang...
they are both a lot smaller, but cannot turn as sharp...

i wonder if my jeep can turn sharper than the expo or not? i will have to get it out of emergency drive first...

I'm pretty sure it can, I had a '98 that is now my mom's. With the stock tires, my Jeep could just barely make a U-turn on our street, whereas the Expedition has to do a 17-point turn. BTW it's saggin' because the air suspension hadn't pumped up yet...

my air ride is broke, now i use a air compressor with a air chuck and a valvestem i yanked off of a scrap rim, cut the hard hose next the the compressor, then put a foot long 3/8" air hose over it, put the valvestem in the airhose, then a couple hoseclamps at each end, and i can air it up, and down. once i get it to the height that i need, i just turn the switch off.

around these parts short wheelbase vehicles just do not do as well. i love my FSJ and wheel the pee pee out of it but I do wish I had something lighter with the same wheelbase. I think the FSJ has a strong hold in the 4x4 world but it takes a lot patience to get one just right. baby jeeps have so much bolt on stuff that it makes them the easy choice for some.

having a stock V8 and d44s is a pretty nice starter kit and for some the t18a and d20 aren't bad either.

I went from a 97 TJ with 6" longarm and 37s to my FSJ. I love my FSJ! I take it everywhere the TJ went and then some. And it is so much more fun to wheel with the little jeeps.

I'm certain that I recall reading somewhere that an SJ has a turning radius comparable to a CJ5. I'm looking to see if I can find it again. I know mine turns in places where I could barely get my old YJ.

X2

Since my Wag is my DD, everytime I hop into my wife's Tundra I feel like I'm driving a big rig.

The Wag is point and go.....the Tundra don't steer worth a dang.

That is an amazing turning radius.

I keep in mind that the FULL in full sized jeep is a bit of stretch. Our mid size really helps when you are on a wooded trail. And the average 109" W.B. seems like a pretty good compromise.

I wish we had the bolt-on market that the yittle jeeps have, though.

WOW!
None of those turning radius compare to my '93 GMC 3500 extended length cargo van.
That thing is like driving a bus and with a 9700# GVW...it rides like one, too.

all i know is that i have no issues turning my truck around on the street in one fell swoop which is awesome for a truck
But i know when i had those little jeeps i had them in a lot of places where vehicles just should not go
I really hope that once ive got this old girl into shape i can have just as much fun offroad as i do on the road
