New Jeep (to me) '82 Cherokee

Someone in my Jeep club sent an email out that his neighbor had an old Cherokee for sale: $300. Turns out it was the original owner of a 2door Cherokee Larado - wide wheel, six cylinder (only thing available here in CA in '82), 5 speed, 3:31 gears, Trac-Loc, Air, power tailgate w/defrost.

It didn't run, and the said he thought it had a bad fuel pump - and included a new fuel pump in the price. I towed it home, put in the fuel pump and it started right up! After sitting for 10 years.

So I've been going through it getting everything to work, (clean & lube has worked on everything so far except the bad fuel guage sender).

This thing has almost no rust (a little around the antenna from a bad installation), and when I got it started it ran fine, the trans and transfer case work, and the engine doesn't burn any oil! The owner has the original window sticker, factory build sheet, owners manual, Jeep brochures from 1982, and maintainence records for everything done to it for the last 26 years!

Guess it was just my lucky day!

Man, oh man, that really is an insane deal. I don't know if much else compares to this deal. I almost can't comprehend the lack of rust. (being over here in the northeast)

Thanks, it would be nice to have a V8, but the six/stick reminds me of my old '75 CJ5. Since it was an option, I think having the 5 speed is pretty rare.
