With all this hood louver talk...
i decided to get me a set too. Ive been battleing engine temps for a few months now so i figured this would help move hot air outta the engine compartment. Just mocked up for now. Ill get them put on next week. They are from gen-right.

That'll look great Brett. What's all that crud on your hood? Do I need to come down there and shine Sarge up for ya?

If one were to use one of the Gen-Right three piece louver sets, where would the third, wide louver mount? I was thinking just aft of the radiator and fan assembly?

That will look good. It sure did help on my XJ cherokee, have done it to 2 of my past XJ's and never overheated once afterwards. For the cheap folks around here, get some heater vents that are used in the floor of a house and fab them up. Cheap and work great

I cut louvers on my hood by hand pretty close to where you have those mocked up. Mine are a little closer to the center of the hood. It didn't help at all above 50 mph but did help at low speeds. You can feel a lot of heat coming out of them. Fair warning if you have any oil leaks on the engine (like we all do) your gonna smell it a little bit more throught the vents.

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but is there any concern with excessive water getting into the engine compartment? I know that water blows up from the road while driving or from splashing through mud puddles when wheeling, but does having a direct line into the engine compartment from the top pose any problems? Has anybody actually determined the ideal placement of these louvers?

There is no stopping water from going in my engine compartment while driving down the road in the rain or playing in mud puddles but I did put my louvers over the gaps between the exhaust manifolds and the fenderwells so there is no water going directly on top of the motor.
