How far can you get?
I ran across a old Chero advert a while back. It said that the vehicle get 15 mpg . I have been trying to relocate the image on the google machine but can't. Anyhow i calculated out the fuel economy on my rig and it gets 8.5 mpg woot woot. Thats with stock gearing and 33" all terrains. I am curious to know what everyone else gets.
Oh and if anyone has seen the same advert please attach it

Well, as my J10 gets about 11-12mpg, 34 gal. tank (which I don't fill up cause it seems to run out the filler hose, 30 gal., say), I can safely go 300-340mi.

well, ahhh
"In Finland Wagoneers (starting from late 70's) were usually sold with a Valmet 411 Diesel engine (4.4 Litres Max. power 82hp DIN/rpm 2200, Torque 306Nm DIN/rpm 1460). Typical mileage with this engine was around 29 MPG (8.2L/100Km) and if a turbo was installed by the owner, mileage improved even more (8L/100Km)."

I can squeeze 200 miles out of mine if conditions are right and i keep my foot out of the 4 barrel.
I get on the nineish side of ten usually. Even if I would drive with economy in mind I don't think I would get to 11 mpg

20-gallon Blazer tank -- not wise to use more than 18 of them if it's hilly. Last fill-up was at 298 miles -- 17.1 gallons.

That's 17.4mpg!!!
I didn't think that was even remotely possible! I guess the work to install the TBI has paid off in spades.
The best I ever got out of any of the dozen or more V8 SJs I've owned was 14mpg. Typically 11mpg. The best for a 258 was 17.5.

I just got back from towing a 4500 pound car/trailer combo from DFW to Houston. Got 9 mpg on the trip down @65-70, and 13+ mpg on the return (no trailer) at a steady 75 mph. Not bad. Truck has 3.31 gears, 30 inch tires, and the 360 has an HEI and the Edlebrock "combo"...RV cam, 600 cfm, Performer intake. Bet it would have done 14-15 if I'd slowed down. Lots of stops because of small tank, in fact I carried a spare jug of fuel just in case.
By the way, it ran cool (no shroud/stock radiator) @ 80 degrees OAT, and it handled well...stock short bed suspension. No equalizer, no antisway on hitch.

Actually, the ol' gal's not running quite right just now -- I've gotten a good bit better. Remember, altitude makes a pretty big difference, and EFI automatically adjusts. Back in S.C. I was getting 13-15.
Fellow I met recently who twiddles wrenches at the local 4x4 shop says that he could usually crack 20 MPG with a 360 Wagoneer with little more than a Holley 500 two-barrel and advanced timing. But the thing would barely run down in Denver.

I'd still like to know how people are getting over 14 mpg on a v8 Wag
It would be great to modify this thread and tell us whether you're running stock or have modified ignition, timing, carb etc.
I can get 14.5 on an open highway using cruise the whole way from gas station to gas station. No better.
I usually average 10 - 10.5 around our hilly town. No better, no worse. Doesn't matter if I feather the pedal or stomp on it. Soooo what's that in terms of "how far can I get?" Roughly 240 miles on a tank on open highway and 170 around town if I'm lucky

Driving my '87 home from Ohio I got about 12-13 on a bad carb (needs to be rebuilt) and badly in need of a tune up. Now I tool around town with it occasionally (only fixed the carb) and still get around 12. My '86 pulled 14-15MPG coming back from NYC, and mechanically that thing was in pretty bad shape.
Had an '82 quadratrack and I would only get maybe 10 around town. That was my first car; got me addicted to these things

Scotty,
I am runnin a 90 Waggy "SCHWEETY" as the kids named her. Stock 360, stock everything even the Jeep Logo foglamp covers with get ready wait for it, wait for it, wait: 231,000 miles. I dont use cruise, I drive like I have sense and take it easy. I am however tryin an experiment this week. I have a buddy and he is a huge tree hugger and constantly rides my tail about the WAGGY and the crap gas mileage she gets. He sent me a link on this "hypermiling" crap and Im trying it as we speak. Hee Hee, tryin to Hypermile a 90 Waggy. I should get a free IFSJA tee shirt just for trying it. I mean hell this battle tank runnin in neutral with the engine shut off and no power breaks, reminds me of the beater $100 F100 POS truck I had in high school. Now dont get all wiggy, Im not doing it light to light with that Hypermiling crap just in parking lots hee hee. I do turn it off if Im gonna be sitting at some of the long Charleston sit and wait stop lights or crap traffic conditions. Just tryn to squeeze any and every drop out of the tank baby!!! I will advise on the results from this week. However in theory, I bet I get 1 MPG better and a crap load of work for that! But Im startin a new revolution "Hypermiling Waggys Baby" hee hee.

with 33x12.50 MTs, 3.54 gears, Th400/QT, Holley Street Dominator intake ,Edel 600 offroad carb, dual exhaust, and a KN filter I get 10mpg. I also run the diesel oil in..too tired to remember the name of the crap.
ehh its all about the smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon.

Lordsburg, NM to Tucson, AZ
156 miles, 12.5 gallons
Like SJ I can run the Blazer tank to about 18, but with no gauge I don't really try to do this.
A little over 12mpg, 4.10's-34.5's-Welded 14-Bolt.
Used to be about 14mpg, 3.54's-33's-Open D44.
Could be worse.
