About $2500 in this one. Traded work and parts for the truck. Sold it for cash and a doubler for my Chief project.

HEI $120

H1s and tires $500.

4.10 DRW D60/D70 $900

high steer parts $250

shocks/springs/aal $450

I have that much in the axles/gears/lockers in my Chief. Still can't drive it.

Money in my rig.

I originally bought my 69 waggy for $700 and immediately put a waterpump, battery and new starter on it. Cost $100 to do that so...

$800 in the vehicle.

Bought another waggy (1977) for $100 with a 401/TH400/QuadraTrac.

I made over $1000 profit selling parts off of it, keeping the D44's.

So -$200 in the vehicle (or, I got the vehicle for free plus $200 cash)

Since then I've spent the $200 profit and another $400 in upgrades (mini spools, bearings, seals, ball joints, front lift springs from junkyard, high steer arms, 3/4 heims/bolts/spacers, a gallon of featherfill primer, two paint guns, and some other crap.) None of these parts have been installed yet, still finishing up things.

So, depending on how you look at it, I have somewhere between $400 and $600 in my 1969 waggy so far. It is currently running and driving with just shy of 50k miles and fully insured. (I look at it as I have $400 in it as the $200 profit was also free)

Nathan.

J4000

$200 initial investment (running, drivable and fairly solid truck)
$170 for new EZ-wiring harness
$115 for junk yard springs and u-bolts(pretty much brand new)
$160 for ballistic fab brackets for the spring under frame(not done yet)
$40 for two nice early Toyota mini truck seats(still need to be mounted)
$100 for junk yard dizzy with new Accel points eliminator(never even hooked up), 4bbl intake manifold and a holley carb.
$44 for Rhino grill, pie plates and headlight rings(junk yard)

That all adds up to $829 but I've gone through so many shop consumables and quite a few trips to autozone for random parts, and a few cheap trips to the junk yard so I'm over $1000.

not too bad considering what I have sitting behind me in my garage.

We have $400.00 into the 72 Wagoneer...will put another $500 into it - tires, mostly, and a brake booster. The rationale was that our son needed/wanted his own vehicle to do daily drivng and some off roading. His grandad had the Wag, which hadn't run in 7 years but supposedly only needed a carb rebuild and a rear main seal, and it was free. It was the most economic solution - which is funny, as FSJ's are often so un-economic.

$3700 for j20, $1000 to get body dipped, $500 to rebuild front and rear axles, $1100 for springs, $300 for almost new condition tailgate, $1000 for new fenders and body panels, it was much rustier than I thought it was. $1300 for a dodge diesel donor truck. $2000 to get engine rebuilt. $1100 for tires and wheels. Probably another $1000 in misceleanous expences and I still need to find a transmission and transfer case. Now that I add it up I'm not so sure it was a good idea.

just getting it back up to speed I've spent not quite 400 bucks.

So, roughly 760 dollars (which have already been spent in surplus on vehicle insurance, and again in fuel) to have a road-worthy rig that sat for soemthing like seven years.

I ahve to say, I'm not entirely looking forward to rebuilding the motor and making it more offroad-worthy. $$$$

Add to that roughly 2000 in parts, some labor at a shop, and some towing trips. Dead motor swapped out for one with 150k miles, transmisison rebuilt, rear axle serviced, muffler replaced, 2 carbs rebuilt...dangit I know I'm forgetting something.

About to drop about $500 into the front axle. I'm about 3200-3300 dollars into it now.

You think with all this money the aftermarket would catch on a little more. I could only find one place that has a bedside and thats bjsoffroad.

I should have never stumbled upon this thread.. I don't even have a FSJ yet and now I'm already scared.

I have a 76 J10 lined up to get.. $500. Been sitting for 3+ years and was told it has a bad trans So that will be the start of it..

Now I'm going to do a break down of what I have in my bronco and see where that comes from

$1300 to purchase (the first time)
$300 new radius arm
$1600 in new 40" boggers
$1000 351 Mass air motor
$1600 C6 transmission
$1000 (rough guess on random parts I've replaced throughout the years)
$500 That I can remember paying to get it "smogged" over the years
$2000 to purchase it (bought from the ex wife after our divorce)

That's up to $9300 as we speak now.. Right now it's in the middle of a body swap and doesn't even run right now.. *sigh*

The first time:
1989 Wagoneer - 3400 purchase price
Edel intake and carb - 300
Stereo - 470
Paint - 1400
Tires - 300
HEI - 150
Radiator and Waterpump - 300
$6500
(I didn't include items such as the 4 ignition modules I went through before switching to HEI or rebuilding the original carb or things like that)

Sold for $6400

Second time:
1988 Wagoneer - traded a boat for it which I had a lot of money in
Napa order (tie rod ends, fuel pump, plugs, air filter, etc) - 230
BJs order (fan shroud and thermostat) - 140
CRT order (HEI and wires) - 170

$540 and I still need a new muffler, new springs and shocks, new motor mounts, new carpet, to get the drivers seat recovered, headliner material, gears, rebuild the heads, and to get the top half repainted.
