Wink Mirror

Did a search quick search and didn't find anything on "Wink Mirror's". Had a VW long ago with one and wondered if anyone used one in an FSJ? My mirror is Tango Uniform (messed up) and thought of using a repro wink mirror as it's replacement. Has anyone used one of these?

I have one in my circle track car, but it seems like overkill for the street, and it might block your view of traffic lights. On the track I can look in it and see from about 15 degrees off my left shoulder around to my right shoulder, since I usually don't have a spotter it's saved me from a few unwanted encounters.

I was wondering because (besides my rear-view is missing) although the GW has plenty of glass, the side (door mounted) mirrors suck!

Sorry, since I don't belong to the cult I didn't have the correct spelling. It's Nuwabian and yes we have them here in Georgia. Feel free to join and wait on the spaceship as their leader is currently doing while serving time. Check out the link.

As far as the wink MIRROR, I was wondering if anyone had one installed in their FSJ and their thoughts on it

I have one and it works real well in my j10. I have a headache rack and it has steel mesh on it so it's hard to see out of the back with a standard mirror. I don't recommend using their mounts though. They are flimsy and the last thing you want is a mirror hitting you while you're driving down the road.

wow, I read this and saw a new thread spin off about every two blinks

I think with the distractions of life and how fast we seem to run, one of those winky things would have me too paranoid to drive.

I used one in my old mustang. I have not tried one in my Wag. I have to agree about the mounts though. I went to a salvage yard and procured two rear-view mirrors with the glass broken out and attached them to the Wink mirror. Then I glued two tabs to my windshield to mount it on. Worked great.

I've used one for a few years in circle track, and i've seen them in bracket racers cars also.
They mount at the same level as your stock windshield mirror, and straight in front of you, because of that, you'd have to lean forward over the steering wheel to see a traffic light if you were stopped close under it.

I've had a 5-panel Wink in my Wag (that almost sounds dirty) for ten years now, and would miss it if it were gone. When the big towing mirrors are not installed, those tiny original side mirrors leave too large a blind spot for my comfort. The Wink helps a lot there.

The 5-panel (3-panel versions are available) is pretty durn wide & dangly, and so I made a bracket to affix the center to the original mount. There's enough headroom in an FSJ so that the mirror can be mounted a bit low to allow a gap above it. That lets you see traffic lights with minimal neck craning. If you get it set-up just right, the sun visirs still work, but the mirror itself also acts as a decent visior some of the time.

Sounds like those who had/have them liked them. Can you still use your sunvisor if one is installed? I think I'll try a three panel one.

As far as side mirrors I keep looking for something a little larger but not huge like California style towing mirrors.

The added benefit to my mounting solution was that I could move it up or down slightly. I really did not have any problem with traffic lights. My only complaint was that the glue they used to mount the mirror panels to the housing would unstick in 100 deg weather and I eventually ended up silicon-ing all five panels back on. But that was long ago, and surely they have improved the product.

Maybe they did. I recall gluing panels back into the one in my old BMW 2002 after a Carolina Summer, but the ones in the Jeep have so far stayed put on their own. Of course, that may be due not to product improvement but global cooling.
