Quick 327 Q?

on the exhaust manifolds are both exhaust ports supposed to run out the back of the manifolds or is one exit up front like mine does? seemed kinda odd to me like both manifolds are from the passenger side but was rigged for it to work on the driver side. ill get a pic later if anyone wants to see what goin on

They used 2 RH AMC manifolds on the FSJs. There was a clearance issue on the left side for a rear exit Y pipe. You might find a LH AMC manifold from a 57-66 Rambler 287 or 327 to provide for rear exit duals. Maybe even the early 250 manifolds would work. I am not as sure on the 250s. The one real difference I am aware of are solid lifters and smaller chamber in the heads.

327 exhaust

yep the drivers side (left) manifold is same as passenger (right). Kaiser used two rights.

I've got the clutch bellcrank right in way of doing the rambler rear dump manifold.

Rambler style - might work, gonna be a real tight bend. So I dunno know if its worth the trouble. I gotta have new exhaust anyway so gonna try.

The exhaust pipe running in front of motor sure makes people wonder what kind of motor is that.

I suppose that's what gives the exhuast on the 327 such a unique sound. My pipe from the driver's side to the pass side is a cobbled mess. I just hope it doesn't fall apart too soon!

Exhaust Guy

I was explaining the way the drivers exhaust has to go around the front of motor then around the Front PTO shaft to my exhaust guy.

He gave me the funniest look, I can still picture his expression.

I'm glad I have a spare one. Gas drips on mine from a leaky fuel pump (no, it's not being driven). Surprised it hasn't rotted through.

I would call that another example of fine engineering on the part of Jeep :P

Client

I insure the muffler shop/ wrecker business, so I know him real well.

We were in shop bending scrap pipe as small as possible so I could take home to see if it was gonna happen, before I went to trouble of getting the drivers side exhaust manifold swapped.

That's when I told him about the factory routing

The 225 V6s are the same way. Jeep did it to clear the Ross steering. I had to locate a rear dump manifold when converting to the later power steering.
