I have a 76 Wagoneer with the QT 4 wheel drive system that has been sitting for about a year. After driving for several miles it develops a shimmy in the right front wheel (seems to be worse while free wheeling). This wheel gets way to hot to touch. I have replaced the inner and outer wheel bearings and it still vibrates and gets Hot.
Could the fluid be expanding or the piston be sticking and putting pressure on the pads causing the wheel to get hot? Would it not pull to the right? Should I have replaced the spindle bearing and seals? Just wanted some advice so I would be spending my time on the most likely problem.

sounds like the caliper is hanging up.replace it,only about 15 bucks

I agree with talntar - locked up caliper will do that.

Any thing special to know about replacing the caliper?? I guess a locked up caliper would not cause the vehicle to pull?

it may or may not pull,depends on how much pressure is behind it.if just enough to keep the pad in contact it will heat up.could also be the fexable brake line on that side.when old they can swell up inside acting like a one way valve.
changing both is an easy job providing nothing is rusted solid(caliper pins,brake line fittings).

you also said you did the whell bearings.
did you tourqe them properly?

Yes on tourqeing the wheel bearings at least according to the haynes manual.
I will try replacing the caliper and the rubber hose, unfortunatley all the connections look rusted.
