Diesel In a J10?

Im sure this has been talked about before but I could not find it when I searched. But has anyone ever put a diesel in a J10 ? I have a J10 and I was thinking about doing it but I dont know what kind on motor will fit and what you have to change to make it fit.
Thanks Dave

I put a Cummins 4BTA in mine. Search Cummins 4BTA and you will hit it. Searching Diesel should bring up a bunch

What kind of weight do those things have to them compared to one of the v8's in our rigs? Does the suspension have to be beefed up on the front end or what? And what about the rest of the drive train, anything to prep. for the torque or is it a non issue?

Sorry

1981-Jeep-Pickup, there are quite a few Diesel swaps here.
DieselSJ and OhioJ20 are but only two that have used GM 6.5TD and 6.2.
FSJeeper has also used GM Diesels in swaps and currently is working on a Cummins 6BT swap.
McInfantry used a Cummins 4BT in a M-715.
I believe some others have used 6BT.
Lots of info, just dig a little for it.
One of these days, maybe we will get a Diesel Swap Section and hopefully some stickeys with a lots of this info.

Also, check out http://messages.jeep2diesel.org/
It's slow on activity, but there is a lot of good info there.

I think that's a great idea. Last year I did a 454 with TBI swap into my J-4000 and found the Binder Bulletin (www.binderbulletin.org) section on injection very informative and helpful.

If a Mod would start one (I have no idea how this works) I'd be glad to contribute my experiences since I'm working on a 6.5 swap now. I've collated a lot of links to existing posts on the subject.

Maybe if a trend is noticed (diesel swaps seem to be popular and getting a lot of press nowadays), a sticky section for that trend could be started. In addition to a FAQ for different types of swaps, we could include parts sources, how-tos, and hopefully long-term driving/maintenance/carnage experiences. I loved reading DieselSJ's "driving test" posts - that's what got me started on this project!

Back on topic...since I'm biased to the GM 6.2/6.5, here are some links that should help answer some questions and lead to other questions (never ends!):

More than one of us wishes to have a Special Forum for Swaps.
Special Diesel Swap/ engine Swap Section poll

There is only one person that can perform this task and that is Adam.
AFAIK, he is the only person the all the permissions that can create a new forum.
No one has heard from him in a while.
I am not for sure what is doing or where he is at?
IRAQ Maybe? I dunno.

YES YES YES!
While my own 6.2 to Wag swap is on long term hold, I reread his driving report about driving through the desert to remind me why I want to pursue my 6.2 Swap.
But, I do not want to sell others short, OhioJ20 has been a large inspiration to me as well.

True. There's definitely a "can-do" attitude around here. Maybe we could pitch a reality show like The Apprentice. Someone could be The Donald, assigning interesting (or not) projects for individuals and groups, preside over board meetings (held in a garage over beer, of course). Kind of like mixing Xtreme 4x4 with Monster Garage, Extreme Makeover, and Pimp My Ride. With a little American Chopper thrown in. Got any more good idears?

Hollywood, here we come!

Thanks guys! Being an inspiration is an awesome feeling. If there is any information that you need regarding the swap, please do not hesitate to ask.

I've got over 12K miles on it now. I've slowed down on the mileage a little since I found the exploded viscous in my 229. Look for postings in the near future for my 208 swap, along with 1350 yokes.

Without a doubt, the diesel swap into my Waggy has absolutely been the best engine swap that I have done. The swap has been so successful that now I am contemplating a 4bt swap into my F150. Ahhh, projects...

And when I get back home I'll post a pic of my GPS screen from when I went to Parker a couple weeks ago.
