2008 Moab FSJ Incursion - April 10, 11 & 12
Since we have not started a 2008 Moab thread with the date, here it is. Would a Mod please make this a sticky?
Plan to be ready to hit the trails at 8AM on Thursday the 10th. Some stay the night before to get a good start. We have a 2 hour drive so will probably meet everyone Thursday morning. We usually meet up at the City Market grocery parking lot on the main drag before we go to the trailhead.
We can go on and on about planning and such here.
Thanks

Oh boy. How can we possibly wait? The last six weeks of cold weather has kept my motorcycles locked up in the garage and made me cranky. Not to mention the UPS trucks have heaters designed for self-heating menopausal women. Since I'm not one, I was freezing my <ahem> off. Even the cigars couldn't keep me warm.
Besides that, it was too cold to go out to the hot tub and watch an episode of Gunsmoke. My Diet Dr. Pepper froze in about 4 minutes, my ears got cold and I had to stay so deep in the water that I accidentally dipped the end of my cigar in the water rendering it unrelightable.
It'll be warm in Moab and I hope not too windy (tent blew down and filled itself with sand last year) or rainy (sunroof leaks.) And if Michel gets stuck will one of you other guys pull him out? <grin>

as soon as I get this video uploaded you can hear what my LR does at 5000 rpm ..no whining :P
Jeeprunner: last year we all scrambled for rooms. I was kinda hoping for a stayover on the Kane Creek run, alone or with whomever, sorta make a last stab at the trail, find a good place in the afternoon and relax-camp it at least one night.
ps..bringing real Colorado beer.

Still planning on going... haven't touched the Jeep since Dec. Have to get thru emissions... want to do other stuff but more or less it is working the way it should. Brakes are pretty good, not perfect. Steering pretty good, not perfect. I think it'll hold together ... I hope... no stereo yet... no sound insulation, ac, door panels... oh well.

Dragging my feet here...
I am waiting to hear back from the Bighorn Lodge about the possibility of setting aside a small block of rooms. My goal is that everyone makes their own reservation directly with them to keep it simple. Some of us stayed there last year and Shimniok has stayed there a few times. It is in good location and decent rooms. They take pets for a fee too. I think doing the hotel is a good way to keep our stuff secure while out during the day and it is nice to get a shower after a dusty day on the slickrock.
Hmmmm, the web page says Spring Special 25% off April 1-23... Seems our double occupancy room was around $75 last year.
Will keep y'all posted.

I dunno. We have been representing the FSJ contingency there since 01. There have been other "invasions" with multiple FSJs in attendence. Last year ROCKED with FSJ attendence though. Just discussion on my part. What does the tree represent? OK, I am getting silly in the head. It looks like a tree from Hobbiton in the Shire. Sorry, did you ask for an opinion?

OK. ok. No offense intended. Cabin fever is almost in remission. So, something like this fine old juniper... with a FJ, er FSJ coming over one of them wicked steps over on Gold Bar Rim.

I am not wrapped tight enough to be an artist and appreciate you getting creative.
Oh and I have a time to talk to the Bighorn Lodge manager on Monday morning. Will report back on that.
