Brake Lights Mystery?

So this cracker jack friend did some electrical work (rewired instrument cluster, found a short to the alternator) and he noticed that he'd go out to work on my '72 Wag and the brake lights would be on. He looked at the switch on the master cylinder and fiddle-farted with the wiring. But it's still doing it.

What seems to happen:

- arrive at my destination
- wait around 30 seconds or so
- brake lights come on

I *had* thought that tapping the pedal was turning them off. BUT just a bit ago I turned them off after coming on, came inside, then got a knock at my door a few minutes later that they'd come back on.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Replace the switch above the pedal. Its a cheap part and if it fixes it good.
If not then look elsewhere. I had the same thing with a 1994 ZJ.

Good Luck

disconnect that switch and see if it fixes the problem (do the lights do out). If not, it could be your emergency flashers. Make sure they are off and that the flasher is not 'sticking'.

The brake light switch just might need to be adjusted. Mine was doing a similar thing.
