Another new guy checking in
Howdy ya'll! Just picked up my second Jeep (first one was a CJ-5 in 1978 that I only kept for 2 years) a 77 J-10 with a 258, TH 400 and unknown Transfer case. reason its unknown is that I dont know how to tell them apart. It does have the Quadratrac(sp?).
It is definately a project, although it is running. Looks to have a lift kit (springs), factory springs are in the bed. Also has a new or rebuilt transfer case that seems to be leaking pretty badly. There is a busted up transfer case in the bed too. Came with an extra hood in the bed too.
Rust at the bed seams, and the interior is pretty nasty, but she's all mine and paid for to boot!
I'll try to avoid posting too many dumb questions. I have a lot of chevy experience, restoring and hot rodding various cars and trucks over the years. No real experience wrenching on Jeeps though.
A question to start
Where do you get interior parts for these? Carpet, knobs, guages, etc.

Well the transfer case is not unknown if it has a Quadratrac 'cause that is the transfer case

Carpet - BJ's (not sure if they do the trucks) fix all interior leaks first.
Knobs - Larry Miller here makes some nice replacements.
Gauges - Scrounge or go hi$$ for the custom setups.
What gauges do you need?
Like the cluster?
Someone here (I probably do also) will have a spare you can have (lots of dead '77's out there for parts)

Sell that thing quick before you get the disease. The symptoms can include empty pockets, maxed out credit cards, an unusual desire to drive through mud "just because", and lots of time spent under over and around the Jeep covered in 30 year old grease.
If its too late, and you've got the fever, I hate to break it to you but it's terminal, but a heck of a lot of fun!!! If thats the case, I'm glad to meet ya.

Welcome! Me too on the Kimber
Looks like a great truck to start with. I love wrenching on my '87 Grand Wagoneer, and yes it is a disease... but it's well worth it I think.
Good luck with your project,
Clay

I'm over by Lawton. I did get the J-10 over by Tulsa though. I'd still be interested in the parts place
