304 vs. 360 Heads

Great site! New to this one, but not new to Jeeps. I have always bought good running engines - never rebuilt one. But, I am now.

I currently have a 73 304 and want to switch to an 82 360. But, my 304 has roller rockers and probably some other work that has been done to the heads. Not sure though, I bought it this way.

What are the differences between 304 and 360 heads?

Would it make sense to put the 304 heads on the 360?

Can I just take the roller rockers from the 304 and put them on the 360 heads? Is it worth it?

I remember the guy telling me that installing the roller rockers required some machining of the 304 heads. Is this true?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a shot of the roller rockers on the 304.

The differences are covered here: http://www.yagid.com/pic/Tech/headspecs.jpg
Do you have a full size Jeep, or fixing to build one?

Any suggestions on my dilemna?

I am currently looking for a FSJ 3/4 or 1 ton pickup for towing my rock crawler with.

have been told ,but dont know it as gospel that the 304 heads have smaller valves.otherwise they should bolt up.you got them swanky heads if it was me i would try it.they would work better than the heads you dont got.might not breath as well as 360 heads tho.but then again if they have been massaged bit they might.

304 heads have smaller valves, so I wouldn't bother using them on a 360
