1410 front driveshaft?
Well my buildup is moveing really slow, but seady. I am almost done with rebuilding my NP205. I have come to the point of putting it all back together and sealing it up. I plan on running a 1410 rear driveshaft when all is said and done. So I am gonna order a 1410 rear yoke for it (stock was 1350). While I was at it, I was wondering if I could run a 1410 front driveshaft too? I will be running a NV4500, witch I will bolt my NP205 to. The front axle is a 78 ford high pinion. I will be running SOA with stock springs. So I was thinking that when I ordered the yoke for the rear, I could order a 2nd one for the front. Will a standard 2 u-joint driveshaft work fine up front, or will I have to run a CV shaft? I am to the point of sealing up the 205, and what front yoke I use will determine what oil seal I will have to use. I would like to have the 205 completely sealed up and ready to go. As I will have to keep it stored untill I rebuild the NV4500 and both axles. (doing one thing at a time)
Stock, the ford 205 I have used a 1310 CV driveshaft with a 1330 joint where it bolted to the dana 60. The driveshaft looks pretty worn and 1310 just does not seem like enough beef for me. So can I use a standard 2 joint shaft, or will I have to run a CV? I am hopeing the high pinion front axle will help with this matter. Also, if I can run a 1410 front shaft then it makes spare parts a lot easyer, as I would only have to carry one type of u-joint for spares. Just wondering if anyone has a SOA rig with stock springs and a similar setup and wondering what front driveshaft you run.

1410 and 1350 yokes have the same seal, so go ahead and plan on one or the other as far as seals go.
I ran stock springs SOA with a HP D60 and a 208. I ran non cv 1350 front tcase output and 1350 front axle yoke. There were no problems at all with clearance. But my tcase was broken half the time, so the test data was lacking a little. Now I have the Stak 3 speed that mounts in a different location. I still don't run a CV though. It really depends on the angle. 727/208/stock springs SOA/HP front axle worked fine with 1350's non CV. NV4500/205 should be fine, but I'll let someone with better experience chime in. It really depends on the angles. You don't have them mounted yet, do you?

Oh yeah, and the 1350 max angle is 20* where 1410 is 37*. Forgot to mention that.

I don't have this setup but I have considered buying all new yokes for my drivetrain in the 1410 size so I quit breaking what I have now. So I'm planning on doing that but I never realized something until someone pointed it out. When you go with new yokes and U-joints you have to get the ends that go on the driveline to fit the bigger parts, which are a little harder to come by (at least in my case). I'm sure you have thought of this already but I thought I'd just throw it out there. I've briefly looked up these parts online but can't seem to find anything. So if you know of a company that makes these let me know

We have a place here in Austin called Austin Drivetrain. They had everything I needed for my square tubing driveshafts and tcase yokes. If you have a place similar, check them out.
1410 new spicer tcase yoke: $57.53
1410 new spicer U joint: $17.96
1350 new spicer U joint: $15.91
1410 older weld on yoke: $7.50
1350 older weld on yoke: $7.50

Slick, yea I read on one place (cant remember where, but wasnt pirate) that had a list of the diffrent joints and their max angles. I wasnt sure the infor was 100% true so I took it with a grain of salt. But I figured if it was true, then I would probably have better luck with the 1410 than any other. As for the question about haveing it mounted. No. Once I button up the np205 (almost done) then next thing on the work bench is the NV4500, that I am gonna fully rebuild. As for the seals, yep, the rear will be fine, but the front 1310 yoke uses a mutch smaller I.D. seal. Thats basicly what this thread is about. Figureing out if I can run 1410 u-joints, and if I can, then I am gonna order 2 32 spline yokes and another seal for the front.
Gearhead, I will have completely new driveshafts built.

Well, on my 208, the seals were the same for the front and rear (Outer Diameter). The 1350 yoke and 1410 yoke has the same OD (same ID for the seal). So it comes down to the larger yoke rubbing on anything (crossmember, tranny (doubt it), floorboard (not in stock 205 location)). So it sounds like if you have good crossmember design or modification, a 1410 front would work.

Those are pretty decent prices. There is a driveshaft shop about a hour from me (in huntsville) I will give them a call and see if they can get the yokes. All I have seen are the ones on ebay for $89. If the shop can get them for a decent price, mabey you would be interested in picking me a couple up and shiping them out, if I pay pal you the $$.

Yea, the 205's oil seals have the same OD. Just the front 1310 cv yoke has a mutch thinner wall, so it uses a oil seal with a smaller ID. So all I have to do is use a seal made for the rear. I already have the part number for the seals. I'm gonna do double lip seals. Basicly the part that holds the seals (bearing retainer) is deep, and the seals are thin, and this allows you to put two seals face to face, doubleing the sealing. Not only will it keep oil in, but it will keep crud out!
I will try and look up the shop in the phone book at work tomorrow. But right now, all I would need is two 32 spline 1410 yokes to fit the ford np205 (it has 32 spline shafts front and rear) But if they can get the yoks for the axles too that would be great. Dana 60 front, and 70 rear.

Hey hardbody, do you have a phone number for them? I looked up their number in the phone book at work and called, but kept getting the number has been dis-connected message. I looked at another phone book and it was the same number. Did they close down? I just had them balance the rear shaft in my YJ this spring.
Slick, the same yoke fits a D60 or D70. I just test fitted the yoke from my 60 on the pinion of the 70. But the 70 is from a early 80's ford F250 diesel.
