time for a rebuild???

well. my cherokee has always had a loooooooouuuuuud ticking (not exhaust) and has smoked. and now i do not have reverse, i have d, 2, 1 and P and N... but no stinking R

i have the front right tire in a small hole, (about 3 inches deep with the front of the tire upagainst a sidewalk, in order to get out of the hole i have to put it in either d or 1st and climb up the sidewalk (about 5-7 inches up) and once i get it up on the sidewalk i can throw it in R and wait till i get the engine get under the slightest load then let off the brake and "gun it" to get enough speed to get off the sidewalk down into the hole and run out of it. and even then i cant get out.

it is a 77 chero, 360, th400, qt. everything is original and stock, minus the smog is taken out and the holey on top. so...

im witing on a reply on a j10 that i want to buy, so i can tag the j10 and drive it while in fixing up the chero. what do y'all think about that?

Been there. Done it. No reverse in mine was due to a broken rear servo. Don't know how many miles are your trans, but with no reverse your gonna have to drop it.

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to go ahead and do a rebuild.

Since you have to rebuild the transmission, I would rebuild everything. I would even go through the T-Case.

i was thinking that too, i found a qt from cali for shipping only .

so i could piece and part the two cases, and if worse comes to worse i will throw in a PT kit... i dont really wanna do that though...

im gonna get that j10 if it is a resonable price, and work on the chero on spare time/money. while im at the rebuild i might as well lift it, im thinkin a soa and a shackle flip.

ive got the plans, but no money to do it with.
