Cowl hood thoughts?

I'm thinking of getting a cowl hood. Anyone have one from these guys?

http://www.usbodysource.com/

I made a little something on Paint.

My wife hates it....but she hates my Jeep in general.

I found a fun web sight to play with the 401 numbers.

http://www.signspecialist.com/letter...lettering.html

Yeah it's for mail boxes but it's still fun.

Type in 401, check mirror, check fat cat font, then upper right and green.....then see what it will look like.

Slap it on both sides of the cowl and now we are talkin' .

I'd put that 1" spacer under the carb and get a taller air cleaner.

Man if you want to do it then DO IT... lol... it's your truck... I think it would look mean... maybe a little strange (as in getting used to it strange), but mean.

I think it would look awesome! One word of caution on U.S. Body Source a few years back I was in the custom ground effects business and ordered some hoods from them. Everyone of the hoods were warped so bad that they could not be used. I called them and they tried to blame it on shipping and refused to warranty them. Technically they were right because the hoods were shipped before they had completely cured. We had to cut the scoop off the hoods and sell them at a loss just to get rid of them.

I have had similar thoughts. Check out http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D471500&N=70 0+4294757234+4294839005+115&autoview=sku

A little custom trimming and it would fit rather nice, and it's rather cheep.

Digging up a pic from the distant past... JC's Road Warrior had a cowl scoop on it... no idea where he got it tho.

If enough folks would come together and do a mass order then this company http://www.orrcoplastics.com/ would make a direct bolt on.

Larry, you have access to a welder, you could buy another hood and chop it up and use the metal to form a cowl. I have been looking at doing this on one of my rigs, but down the road a bit.

If you don't really have a need for them they're kinda poseur. Plus I think they look silly, but just my two cents.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I have a ton of dents in this hood....and an ok hood from a 77 Wagoneer.

Right now I have so little room under the hood that I can't even put a wing nut on my measly 3" tall air cleaner.

I had to return the 1" carb spacer I was going to use last summer. And I would like to run a taller air cleaner.

Fresh air don't hurt nothing.

Anyone try the mail box place and play with the letters for fun?

Larry

larry, the 1" spacer should add around 10-12hp.....you should consider re-purchasing it when you pop the hood

Here is a photo of a friend of mine over on FSJN (cj5wagomando) and his hood. He made it himself, came out pretty decent. He says it sucks in a LOT of air, and really keeps down on in-cab temps by not letting heat soak through the firewall. Also does a good job of keeping snow off the windshield :P

Might even try a 2" to see what it does.
I'll have to extend the kick down linkage.

That's a nice looking rig Brandon. Thanks for sharing.

from what I've read (read: no personal dyno data), they say the 1" works the best. But, if you run back to the chassis dyno, you could try both.

Brandon, your buddy's cowl hood looks cool. I think they look good when they run along the factory raised-section lines.

I think that they look silly..

BUT, its your rig, so do with what you like..

AND, as far as the red Waggy goes... I would never insult a rig that someone has clearly put sooo much time in, but WOW.... That thing is something special..

Its a '67, and it has lots of neat little things he has done to it. But still wheels it a lot.

The cowel was made by taking the center section of another hood, then adding some material between the original bump and the other center section.

is that an exhaust pipe coming out the rear lower quarter?

In some cases the cowl is a necessity, due to a taller intake and carb combo, or a taller air cleaner assembly (of course, unless you run a body lift).

Cowl hood

I was thinking about doing this. I have been looking at the add ons for 140.00 or shipped. 2 inch height.
