I vote resto, that thing is way too nice to build. Newer Jtrucks, cherokees and wagons are everywhere for really cheap to buy and are easier and cheaper to build. The 1st gen. Jtrucks are rare and the triftside is ever rarer so do what you can to keep it as stock as possible.

I'd build it and keep it looking just like it is!

I am not going to vote, because that is an impossible question for any of us to anwser. A wheeler and a resto are not even in the same ballpark. Its all about what your pocket book can handle, what you like, and what you want..

Who cares what we want??

With that said, if it were mine, I would resto it.. But that is easy for me to say, I already have a wheeler project..

In my opinion, there are more capable fsjs to start with if wheeling is what you want out of it and there aren't but a handfull of nice fsjs this old around anymore, so a restore of some form would be my vote. However, It's your money and your truck, so if you want to mod it up and hit the trails who am I to stop you?

I agree with Jeep_Guy. It would be easier to restore this to stock than modify to wheel. The aren't a lot of the thriftsides left and one in that good of shape is even rarer.

IFS?

I was showing the picture in your other post to a friend last night and he noticed the weird looking hubs and it looks like your front end has slightly positive camber. Is that independent front suspension?

If it were me and i had the finances, i would go completely stock, even down to the paint color.

I dont know if you can find the kinds of tires it has anymore but that truck would look so cool as it was originally intended

PS i love that color of green! makes me think of a forest service vehicle.

I noticed all the pine needles on the ground, where do you live?

I agree with a lot of posters. There are better FSJ platforms that you can start with for a 'wheeler.

If I were into restoring cars and trucks (which I'm NOT anymore), I would just restore it.

Me? I would SELL it and get something I could use!

The older I get the less I like collecting things just cause they are neat. Don't get me wrong, I still appreciate a well maintained or restored older truck/jeep/musclecar, etc. But I just don't want to carry the overhead. I did that with GTO's for a while when I was younger and now I wished I would've just driven them.

If you hack that thing up, you better prepare for the villagers to storm the castle.

That's a beaut of a classic old truck. And as others have said, there are better (newer) Jeep trucks to turn into wheelers.

Complete stock restoratation on that old girl - at least if it were mine. You could restore it and still have fun driving it around - just stay off the interstate.

Wow, that's one NICE J-truck!!

I know I'm not an example of keeping vehicles stock, but I think that truck is far too nice and unique to modify. Like other people said, if you are looking for a truck to build, newer ones are MUCH better, as really early ones have lousy axles, brakes, steering, wiring, ignition, engine, transmission, suspension... just minor things
