727 to 205??
OK....Since my pending nuptuials are close.....I've been veto'd on the atlas purchase until after the honeymoon.
Just a lil background. I am swapping a chevy 60 and 14 bolt in to my J10. Currently running a HD 44 with driver drop 208.
I want to get this up and wheeling as soon as i can and get the atlas next year. I have a Dana 300 that will bolt up....I also have a 10 spline male 205. Is there an adapter and coupler shaft to hook up the 205 to a 727?
I am leaning that way more since the 300 will be temp. If I go with the 205...I could always go 3:1 instead of the atlas later if I wanted.
Hmmmm..what to do?????
Is there a 23 spline 208 or 241 that is pass drop?

ive never heard of an adapter for a 727 to 205. but the 300 is a direct bolt onto the back of the 727.

it would be the cheapest route, and besides that i really dont think you would break it.(see any of the other 300vs** posts)

Well...it would definately be a temp solution. If you have ever seen me drive...you know it'll break sonner or later.
i have been reading the numerous post on 300 vs 205. The one arguement that makes the 205 win is the pathetically small drive shaft i've have to use to fit the 300 past the 727 pan.
I'll be just glad to wheel this truck...so as long as the 300 hold up for a few months till winter..i'll be fine

Yeah, your options are pretty much limited. What size tires are you wanting to run on the one tons? You may just run the driver drop 8 lug HD44 until you get a tcase.

It's actually a very easy swap, if you have access to a dodge tranny, you take the output shaft, and the t-case adapter, install them in your AMC 727, and presto, you have a factory 727-205 adapter. I have what you are interested in, including a dodge 205, so maybe we can work something out.
Shipping will be on your dime of course.
Give me a call. 720-641-5047.

Just a thought, and I could be way off base on this, but isn't the input to a Dodge 205 also a 23 spline, with a standard round 6 bolt patern?. Wonder if there is any way to just bolt straight to the AMC 727, without changing output shafts or adapters. Anyone know the answer? I may just have to try some mixing and matching to see if it's plausible.

Yeah...I have a 23 spline dodge 203 and 727....but if I am going to all of that trouble of pulling the tranny and swapping main shafts..I'll do a doubler. I'll be running 39.5 iroks....and I'd prefer to go the atlas route...but I think a 300 will hold up temporarily with out too heavy of a right foot. I have a 4:1 and 32 spline in and out from a past project....so it just makes sense for me to go this route.
I'll be dropping a lot of weight...but not enough to make me feel comfy with just the 300.

i was looking into getting an atlas II case for my jeep but then saw how much they were and my wallet convinced me to go another route.

i do know that in some situations dodge used a 23 spline male input in the 205,with a female connecting sleeve between the tranny and t cases male input/output. im not 100% sure where you find this,as i have also heard that round pattern,23 spline female input dodge 205s do exist that will bolt right to an amc 727. i have never seen pics of this version, however. the other dodge 205 pic i saw was of one attached to a 435,and it looked similar to what your pic shows, with what looks like an adapter between the 727 adapter and 205
even if the tranny in your pic uses the 23 spline male input 205 and female sonnceting sleve,it still may be possible to bolt the 205 and its adapter to the amc tranny- i think it will come down to the stickout length of the tailsahft on both trannies, and the length of the splines. even if it will bolt on and work, you wouldnt want to abuse it if there is insuffucient spline contact.
i think you should seperate the dodge tranny and 205 for us and snap a pic or 2 what year/model is that combo from?

OK the dodge does use a collar and will bolt up no problem to an AMC 727 both 23 spline both NP 6 bolt pattern the collar is expensive from dodge so make sure you take the collar with the t-case. I have this exact set up in my pacer right now using a 904 eagle trans adapter which bolts on to the 727 (its all I had at the time) dimensionally the 904 and 727 adapters are the same except for the size of the bearing and seal that go on the output. My mopar 205 is out of a 86 one ton single wheel dodge. So is the front diff.
