360 Exhaust Manifold Bolt Question

Hi,

I am finishing a rebuild of a 360 and was set to bolt the exhaust manifolds back on, when I realized the holes on the manifolds (which the bolts pass through) have a considerably larger diameter than the bolts themselves. I do not have the AIR system on this truck, so maybe they served as some sort of spacer?

Regardless, while I guess I could just bolt the manifolds to the heads while holding them in place and hoping they don't ever slip, I figured I would ask you all on here first.

I went through all of the threads I could find and there was never a mention of it - or if there was I missed it.

Thanks in advance!

The two middle bolt holes are considerably larger, location gets centered around the two outter bolt holes.

Studs instead...

Interesting thought. Of course on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere ND makes that a bit more challenging to accomplish.
