Hey if any of you guys/gals come through Salida give me a call, I'll be on-duty all day and can meet you somewhere in town. If anyone has room for two tires, Gambler needs the two I have, I was going to take them but as you things happen.
Salida is on Colorado Highway 50 between Pueblo and Gunnison
Let me know (719) 221-3150

As you know from the PM we may be staying the night in Salida and finishing our trip on Sat. AM so we could probably tie the tires on the top of the Waggy for the remainder of the trip up to Ouray. I'll have Pam give you a call tonight and we can make arrangements.

Me and my bud will be there in his eagle wagon, since my j10 won't be ready by then. Any camp sites available for a couple guys and a couple small tents?

You can call the Ouray KOA and pay for one over the phone. If they are full there is a free place to camp with no amenities down the road in Ironton.

Check out the "Share a Tent Site" thread...there's a couple sites open, I think, or waiting to be snatched up. 46, I think, 52C, and maybe one more. Call the KOA and see if you can get in. Specify that you're with the Full-Size Jeep group.

Have you swapped in a transfer case with low range? Without low-range there will likely be problems with overheating brakes on the descents. Also as I recall those sixes were a little anemic ahead of the automatic and may have difficulty on the climbs without low-range. There was a little incident a couple of years back with a non-low-range Waggy flying of the trail with faded brakes and no one wants to relive that...

At the time I saw that Cherokee fly off the trail into the creek bed it seemed like a much bigger incident. All 4 occupants were very lucky to only have a few bruises. We now have a thing about having low range.

Isn't this that Bad Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley Eagle wagon that has been posted on this site before? Seemed to me He was from up North. If it is someone needs to get some pics of it as well.
I do still have a free set of plane tickets to use hhmmmmm
Speaking of the flying chero has anyone heard from Ken since then. He was really a nice guy. The wife and kiddos had every reason to stay off the trails after that day. Just a shame for him to disappear just as quick as he appeared. Glad I at least got to spend a little time with him after most everybody left that year. They were staying over a couple more days when I left Sunday afternoon.

Glenn (beemer) has not posted since June 27, 2006. He only had that Jeep for a few months when they came up. Having witnessed the flight of the Cherokee, I am sure it left a lasting impression on them.

I just got off the phone with Dave at KOA. He sent me an email about someone by the name of Mike Stine looking for a site with the FSJ group. My map is now updated and site 46 needs to be taken next please. If the member names are green, refresh the page. They should be dark red now.

Well I wasn't able to get them dismounted before they came to town. Sorry, but I think we have a plan to get them to you.

Thanks for the offer COLOFIREMAN. We'll pass this around the camp fire discussions at Ouray this week and see what kind of feedback we get. I have met a few wheelers from Salida and understand there is pretty diverse trail offerings in the area. When you have some time, do you mind starting a new thread in the Ouray Invasion section and tell us more about the grass camping area and trails you might recommend?
KOA site 46 is now taken by member crow223.

Just got off the phone with Heimekin. ColeTrickle and Green Goat ran into a spot of trouble in Red River NM. Sounds like the radiator had a fight with the fan and lost. They are trying to line up a radiator and get back on the road tomorrow or tuesday, depending on the availability of parts. They'll keep us posted.

Krista ask them if they want me to get a hold of Craig and see if we have a spare that he might be able to bring to them.
