'68 Super restoration thread *RUNNING*
Well, my grandfather finally made good on his promise to drag out the Super for me. It was parked in his yard 18 years ago because it was having t-case issues, well there it sat as he had other projects going on at the time. I snapped a few pics yesterday when he dropped it off and a couple in the dark tonight.
I tinkered with it, tune up, carb clean, new battery, starter, belts, starter solenoid, replaced all rubber fuel lines. Of course fluid change and fresh fuel hoping to get it started but I seem to have some wiring issues, so that didn't happen. Hopefully, I can at least get it started soon so it is more easily movable.
It has the gunsights, but some punk ripped the circle off the driver side one in an attempt to steal it. It has the console, my grandfather is trying to find the armrest in his garage. He took it off before as he found it intrusive. Pretty much all the original Super stuff is there, no original wheels though.
Anyway, I will most likely swap the axles for something later and stronger rather than rebuild what is there. Obviously after sitting for so long all the door and window gaskets are gone, as well as some others. When I tried to pour fuel in it, the gas came pouring out the rubber part of the filler neck that had split in several places.
Anyway, sorry the pics are so bad, but better ones to come later.

Yeah, I will post more interior pics. Overall, it is in good shape. The front buckets were clothed, but rear bench still has the original vinyl in pretty good shape. The center console will need some work and care to get it back to looking perfect and the top of the dash is cracked. All in all, not too bad for a 40 year old Jeep.

You missed your chance to steal it. It was parked in his front yard in Boise for most of those 18 years.

Looks like a pretty decent platform to start with Steve. Good luck with the resto!

Seriously, its rare to get a find like that. Usually a once in a lifetime find at best! So, what's the plan? You can tell me. I wont tell anyone.
Oh yeah, do yourself a favor...get grandad to help you do some wrenching on it. It'll be the best memories you'll have for a long time.

Sweet!
Which motor does it have? If it's the 327 I'd like to see a close-up of what air filter is used on the 4bbl those are supposed to have.

COOL!!! I see you're in the same area as I am. Pop on over to CFSJA.org and get in touch or PM me here.
And be sure you thank your Grandfather. Not just by saying thanks, but spend some time with him. Even if it's just on the front porch. I bet he will appreciate it and you will, too. That Jeep will always be there waiting for you.

Great story, get that thing running and take grandpa for a ride while you can. That's worth more than any plans you could ever have for it. Wish my grandpa could have seen what I did with his boat.

As far as plans for it I will start by getting it running. I think it has a bad ignition switch. Turn the key nothing happens. After that I will begin a full restoration. I would love to have this thing in at least good running shape by my grandparents' 50th next summer. I will also likely use it to occasionally tow my other Jeep.
It origially had the 327 but it threw a rod, so my grandfather swapped in an AMC 360 from a 78 Matador wagon. It was a forest service vehicle that had a dash fire.
