Tow dolly question...will a GW pull a GW?
Will it fit on a dolly and will a Wagon be able to pull another Wagon safely?

I don't like tow dollys but my Cherokee pulled pretty much anything I wanted it to without any issues. I pulled GW's on trailers with it so it can be done...

Not the best method, but I have done it three or five times. How far are you going? I never went more than 50 miles.

As others have said, I wouldn't use a tow dolly, but it'll pull another FSJ without much trouble. Rent a car hauler from U-Haul instead of using a tow dolly.

It would be about 40 slow miles...not much more. It's only another $10 or so for the whole trailer so I might go for that

You know how I hate that hole in the driveway. Besides...it just feels weird driving around in a Chrysler instead of an AMC

...dollied a Cherokee pulled by another Cherokee from Dallas to Green Bay. The towing vehicle was a 258/automatic. No problems except for one small jack knife on an icy patch in a parking lot. Did just fine on dry roads.

OK...next question
Would you disconnect the drive shaft or just leave it in neutral and close your eyes.

For the small effort it is to just take the shaft out I would go ahead and do it.

For the extra $10, the auto transport is the best option. If you say that you are towing another FSJ, they won't rent it to you as the two vehicles are the same weight (a no no according to most insurance companies U-haul and others use). I typically say that I'm towing a 1987 Ford Escort. Make sure that you have the rig properly centered before taking off, as that will cause the most problems. If you don't know how to center one to distribute the weight properly, the guys at u-haul can give you a crash course (pardon the pun). The FSJ's are capable of towing that much and more, provided you use common sense. Don't try to win any land speed records, and give plenty of time to slow down. Oh, another benefit of the auto transports is that they have their own braking system, making it much easier to tow. I've towed around 12 or 13 FSJ's using the auto transport trailers with another FSJ doing the pulling, and never once had an issue. Oh, and if you use the big trailer, you don't need to pull a d-shaft.

Steve, i have used a tow dolly to pull 3 waggies/ a m-715 and a j-10 with my cherokee with no problems. and a auto transport is about 3 times the weight of a dolly and if your not set up for elec brakes in your rig the less weight the better. 4 small bolts. pull the D . and load er up.

dave, the auto transports now don't require your rig to have elec. brake set-up. They use a surge-system. Not the best, but definitely works well enough for the short drive he's using.
All this talk about trailers is making me want to get one! Maybe I'll beg to use GaWag's!

If you say a 87 Escort you might get a autotransport that is too small . . . don't ask me how I know that
I would say for a grand cherokee of an XJ or something of that sort.
