3 Wagoneers?

OK, I need some advice.

I bought an 86 GW last year. The dream came true! Low mileage (84K), lots of maintenance records, body in pretty good shape, paint and woodgrain need some attention, and the interior looks good (other than a few missing parts). Loved it! Ran great for a few months, but the engine is pretty much dead from what my (trusted) mechanic tells me. I debated buying a remanunufactured AMC 360 for $1800 delivered (not sure how much to have it installed), but I decided to see if I could find a donor instead.

Came across an 88 GW on E-Bay, bid $1,000, and won it. Picking it up this Saturday. I know it is a gamble to buy site unseen, but for $1,000, I figured I would give it a shot. The body and interior looks outstanding - other than the paint. Engine supposedly runs well (134K I believe) and most everything works. The guy has a decent rating. My thought is that even if the engine in the 88 GW is poor (hope I make it home), I could part out the rest of it and at least come close to getting my investment back.

Now I have a chance to go look at a THIRD GW. (I think I am insane.) A 1990 that also supposedly runs well (over 160K) and has a great body. I plan to inspect this one and take it to a mechanic before purchasing it - if I do.

My question is, assuming I get a good rig from combining the first two, what would be a fair price for a decent 1990 GW, probably no add ons other than normal replacement parts, with a good body? I may be able to get it for less than $1500 - guy seems desperate. I don't plan to keep 3 FSJ's, but I hate to miss out on a good deal, and if I can recover all or most of my investment from the last two, it is worth the hassle.

Any seious thoughts other than I am getting in over my head?

Dave

Sounds like you have an addiction, before you know it a J Truck will catch your eye! Buy em all up and save them, from the scrap yard or the mindless person who'll mistreat them!

I am trying to be serious. It sounds like you are headed in the right direction to me, but I have been recently diagnosed with loose rocks in my head too.

The word "investment" and Jeep should neve be used in the same thought.
The concept of recovering "investment" and Jeep is a mythical concept born of some urban legend (Most likely started by some guy explaining to his wife how much his Jeep was worth, after dipping into the diper fund to buy parts)

Like women with shoes they don't need! I say go for it bro. You're not going to make back a dime of what you're putting in, but the experience you'll gain picking at 3 FSJs will be worth every penny.
