Waggy is HOME--PICS!!!!!
And before any of you I will post pics as soon as I can take 'em; I had to work until well after dark this day once having taken delivery of my chariot.
Just to refresh the more volatile memory out there, or the completely uniformed for that matter, I had assessed a number of tumors--most of them benign, thank God--on my old Wag, and decided that--since my OR was at the time nearly hip deep in whiteslop--decided that these aging bones aren't up to such DIY surgery in such conditions... (Get that cat outta here!)
So I donned the "soup and fish"--so to speak--and hired the work out to a local garage that specialises mostly in heavy truck and equipment repair, along with fabrication of anything one needs done in mild steel and other stock.... Lotsa log pickers, skidders, backhoes, bucket loaders, dump trucks, etc around there--in fact just about every type of commercial gear one can find at times. The proprietor--being a friend, and this being an old enough ride to make it desirable to work on over one of today's rigs--"grumpily" accepted the job on a pissant "roller-skate" vehicle.
While I supervised on occasion, these guys reconstructed the pelvic regions of the Wag, putting in heavier leaf packs on the rear axle along with gas shocks. They also read and addressed the rest of the grievances on my list, such as driveshaft flange bolts that keep working loose, pitman arm nut that keeps working loose, "moody" brakes (which required new everything on the rear axle....etc....
First time in a long while I have spent money, and have felt really good about it.
The car operates and handles in a much improved manner, and I now have a brake pedal that responds within the first inch and a half rather than the before 3 inches it seemed to travel before engagement was felt. And the steering wheel play is reduced to an inch, instead of the 5 or so inches that I suffered with before.
Yeah, I'm a definite "happy camper" here.....
Again I'll show pics of the posture of the car when I get a chance. It now no longer has the "ol' fogey '60s Falcon/Comet rearend squat that it used to have. It now seems that its posture suggests that I may need to turn my attentions to the front springs....
Which is OK. I'll either do it myself here during warm weather.....or I'll become the "gentleman farmer" once again and hire it out to this place again. We'll see.....
Yeh! I'm gettin' old and lazy.....
I'll post pics tomorrow--or the next day; tomorrow promises to be very busy indeed......

You should get a Job translating for politicians; maybe then we could understand what they are talking about

The driver's floorpan patch I got from GARY will be welded in--rather than just tacked in place as it is now--when the second phase of this operation is performed. We'll do the front springs, putting the ship back on an even keel, and doing any rust remediation and undercoating that needs doing. Meanwhile I will be working on the tailgate assembly to improve reliability there, and other upgrades as time goes along--not in any necessary order relalative thereto.
On the other matter I hafta admit that Ristow's got much better legs than I do....! I need to work out more at the ol' pumpin' station...!

Looks like ya need one there... Hope it was relatively mild that day...The pic looks a bit like a daguerreotype, where the subject has to hold a frozen pose for several seconds to a few minutes.... How one can hold this particular pose with a straight face is beyond me. My hat's off to ya for self control!

There's an issue with its not being exactly centered in its assigned cavity, resulting in the striker post assy on the right-hand side not quite reaching into the latch mech on the tailgate. Gonna involve shimming--or perhaps dropping a nut near the vicinity of the left hinge and whomping up on the tailgate to close on it, perhaps bending things enough to realign the thing. Seems more like a body-wracking issue than a clearance issue brought on by hinge wear or rust issues....Not sure exactly what I need to do; I haven't studied this particular matter that closely yet..... The right post could be shimmed out and problem solved, and I may go with that, but the fact still remains that there is a slightly wider gap on the right side as compared to that on the left.....
Then also I need to do more permanent repairs to the regulator mech for the tailgate window..... And the beat goes on.....

you are aware the hinges are adjustable for that?
pull the interior panel off, there will be a cover over each hinge, loosen the hinge bolts, and you have about 3/4'' adjustability in all directions.
there are striker shims too,i'm sure i could scrounge up a couple proper shims from the parts trucks for you.

Nice! (the Waggy I mean, not Mike. Ok, I guess Mike looks good too ). Anyways....
That pic is angled and decieves the eye into not seeing the angle at which the truck sits. The Waggy now has a nice hot-roddish rake to it, whick looks cool but I think it is better with new front springs. Now once you fix the tailgate and front springs, you can straighten that rear bumper, clean up and repaint the rims, get some front hubcaps on, maybe some 30x9.5 or 31x10.5 tires, get that 4bbl setup installed, and call it good, or cool, whatever.
