Edelbrock #7213 gasket

I was looking over the installation instructions for installing an Edelbrock intake and they recommend Edelbrock part #7213 gasket. Is this the standard valley pan gasket?
I did a ifsja search but did not find anything on this particular gasket- just the standard install instructions.

I think it is a standard pan gasket. You can use the Felpro($25) you get from any parts store. Just don't use the rubber end gaskets. Run a thick bead of black RTV instead. Edel casts their intakes taller on the ends so as to eliminate the end gaskets.

#7213 is just a pair of the paper intake gaskets, NFG for an AMC V8.

Stick with the valley pan from Fel Pro.
Silicone around both sides of the gasket at the water ports, and in place of front and rear seals. High Tach or Copper Coat on the intake ports. Be sure to install the OE baffle from your stock intake onto the Edel. intake too. Let dry a full 24 hrs. = no leaks.

Do you need the valley pan gasket?

Why would I use the full valley pan gasket instead of the paper gaskets? Not picking, just wondering about it. I recently replaced my intake manifold with the performer and the valley pan gasket was a pain in the arse to keep in place. Never had that problem with regular gaskets.

Any wisdom?

Valley pan gasket keeps the oil from burning to the bottom of the intake which can cause problems in time.

USE THE FACTORY TRAY

ABSOLUTELY TRUE. IF YOU RUN THE PAPER GASKETS WITH BLOCKING THE EXHAUST CROSS OVER YOU WILL EXPERIENCE A MYSTERIOUS OIL CONSUMTION TO THE TUNE OF A QUART EVERY 300 MILES AND IT WILL DRIVE YOU NUTS. THE INTAKE UNDER THE CARB GET EXHAUST HOT FROM THE CROSSOVER. THE PURPOSE IS TO WARM THE MIXTURE AND HELP VAPORIZATION. THE FACTORY HEAR VISER VALVE IS CLOSED AND FORCES THE EXHAUST UP THROUGH THE INTAKE PASSAGE AND OUT THE LEFT SIDE. IF YOU USE THE PAPER ONLY GASKET THE OIL SPLASHING AROUND WILL HIT THE HOT INTAKE, VAPORIZE AND GET SUCKED OUT THE PCV INTO THE MOTOR. FOR RACE ONLY IF YOU PLUG THE CROSSOVER THE PAPER GASKETS CAN BE USED.

SORRY FOR THE CAPS. I AM NOT YELLING JUST VERY BAD EYESIGHT AND CAPS MAKE IT EASIER FOR ME TO SEE.

It shouldn't be difficult to keep the valley pan gasket in place while setting the intake down. There are two of the gasket bolt holes on each side that are flanged to fit into the head so as to hold the gasket in place.

I just put on an Edelbrock manifold and they suggest using the Felpro gasket. This is from their site:

Installation Notes: Recommended intake gasket: Fel-Pro #MS96011. Manifolds have two center bolt holes offset. Manifold height: A-4.20", B-5.50" see A/B Measurements. Port exit dimensions: 1.03" x 2.07". Bracket #8034 required for 1979 and later vehicles.

They just want you to use there gasket so you spend more money on there products, its just marketing. Use the valley pan and avoid future problems.

I suspect this is what is going on with 360 I dropped in my'79 chief last year.I bought it on ebay, pretty cheap, complete with an edelbrock S.P.2-P,and AFB on it.The guy just pulled out of a CJ7 rock crawler,to install a SBC,and said it probably needs rebuilt, because it burned oil. When I degreased(and de-mudded)the motor,it appeared to have new freeze plugs, suggesting a recent rebuild.I painted 'er up.droped'er in,did the requierd TFI upgrade,it runs STRONG,the best running 360 I have!BUT it burns LOTS of oil,WITHOUT leaving a trail of blue smoke.I took it across the state last April to hit the dunes,it dtd GREAT in the dunes, but I thing I used 3 or 4 GALLONS,of oil that trip! It's been sitting awhile now,I need to yank that manifold off for a look-see.
