Question Holley Truck Avenger Carb: Need Linkage Part Numbers & Ideas

I just got done swapping out the AMC 360, TH400, BW1339 for a mildly built Chevy 350, TH400, Dana 20 setup in my 79' Cherokee. I'm wrapping up all the loose ends now and on top of the list is the carb hookup. When I sold the 360, I sold it complete from intake to oil pan which included the factory throttle cable bracket . So now, all I have is the throttle cable coming out of the firewall. What are all of my options for getting that cable mounted to my new Holley Truck Avenger carb? The carb is mounted to an Edelbrock Performer, non EGR style manifold. I did some searching on here and didn't come up with much as everyone else was using their existing throttle cable bracket and running a new linkage off of that. If the factory throttle bracket is my only option for that part of the hookup, I'll start looking around for one. Anyway, any ideas on this would be great. Thanks in advance.

I hate it when I sell off (or trash) a part that I find out later I should've kept...

I'd try to find the OE bracket first, but failing that I think I took the throttle cable to the local JY and found some GM car that had a similar cutout in the bracket (to fit the rectangular plastic end). Then I cut off what I couldn't use and stuck that to a custom bent piece that I could use, and off I went. But at least I had the right cutout!

I need to start thinking about this now for my 454 swap.

Hmmm. Or you could get a linear actuator setup and go completely fly-by-wire......be sure to take pics and get part numbers and make a full tech how-to writeup if you go that route...

Edelbrock has a universal throttle cable bracket #8031. It's designed for the performer intake and has the square shaped cable retention like your 79 Jeep had originally.

I used Lokar for both the throttle and kickdown.

Thanks for the info. The linear actuator sounds like a cool idea but I'm looking to just get this thing back on the road right now. Projects like that can come later.

Thanks for the info. I looked up a picture of that bracket on a Google search and could see how that would work. I may go that route however I really like the look and adjustment possibilities Lokar offers in the post below yours. I don't see how it would work though with our throttle cables being square rather than round as shown in the link. Any ideas?

Use the Lokar cable as well as the bracket. They sell it as a kit.

A less expensive option is to go to Summit Racing and the their universal throttle bracket. It has a square opening for the stock cable.

Gotcha, thanks! I figured you would probably have to run their cable with that bracket. Did you have to drill any additional holes in the firewall or do any other mods to run this setup? Price?
If I'm thinking about the same bracket, the Summit one probably looks almost identical to the Edelbrock one that was posted above. I believe that bracket also houses the kickdown cable as well.

On my 350 Wag I used washers on the fire wall square hole for the round Lokar cable. The carby end fits their bracket. If you go with a square hole carby bracket, likie Edelbrock or some others, washers work there too.

Sounds good, thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

Since I'm at work currently ( ), I don't have the Jeep in front of me to figure this out... Does anyone know if all of the "ball" ends, etc. are already installed on the Truck Avenger? I'm basically trying to figure out if I need to order anything else to make either bracket setup I decide to go with a "bolt in" setup.

JUST received Avenger carb Fedex just a few minutes ago
there isn't any ball hookups or rods extending to the side of the throttle bracket at all
if I can get my scanner to working, i'll post a pic of it
what you see is what you get...

Awesome. Couldn't have timed that any better. I thought it didn't come with anything for hookups so I'm glad I asked. Anyone have ideas on what ball & rod kit should work with the factory throttle cable?

can't help on what you exactly need, unfortunately this carb is birthday gift for eldest son for his 81 Bronco I6 300 w/Offenhauser manifold. How it hooks up with his throttle is HIS problem!!
Check on Holleys web site, they should have the parts you need, I'd think.

Well, I received everything from Jegs but have a few issues I hope to get resolved by the end of the weekend.

First, I bought a deep sump transmission pan from B&M for my TH400 tranny. I am having nothing but issues with it fitting. At first, the passenger front most portion of the valve body was hitting the inside of the pan. This wouldn't allow the pan to line up with the bolt holes. So, I decided to grind down just a little on the pan and now it lines up. However, the pan only lines up with the filter out. As soon as I install the filter, the pan won't fit on there straight. I think it is the driver side most rear part of the filter that is hitting the inside of the pan. I grinded what I could on there but come on, this is a $120 tranny pan. It should fit with no problems. I tried to call B&M but they are closed on the weekends. I called Jegs and the tech there said he has sold thousands of these pans with no issues. So, any ideas?

Second, I can't get that Edelbrock throttle bracket (#8031) to work on this setup. "Menace" mentioned earlier that it fits the Performer intake (which I have) but it puts the cabe on the wrong side of the bracket. Does anyone have any pictures of theirs installed or can possibly find just a picture of any car with it installed? I googled for a minute but couldn't find any installed pic's.

Those are my two issues right now. I'm going to head back out and continue working on the throttle deal. I'm hoping someone has some insight on these problems. Thanks!

Alright. Got some answers. Looks like the tranny pan is just built wrong. I don't know why or how but it is. The factory deep sump pan fits great. Install the B&M pan and it won't line up. I even had a buddy take a look at it to get his opinion. He agrees. So, back the tranny pan goes in favor of probably a TCI one.

The throttle bracket mounting issue got solved. I was trying to mount it on the wrong set of bolts on the manifold. My buddy caught me on it and corrected the issue. Now the throttle cable is hooked up however the opposite end of the cable where it hooks to the pedal broke in the process. Unless there is a way to fix that, looks like I'll be in the market for an entire new cable.
