off road bumper

so i am going to be building a front bumper for me jeep to hold my new 12,000 pound winch and i wanted to get some ideas before i start it. It is going to be out of c channel. Either 6inch by 2 1/4 thick or 4by2 3/16 inch thick. Either way it will be twelve feet total. Which would you guys go with the 1/4 or the 3/16. I would like the 1/4 for the added strength but that is alot of weight on the front end especially with the 90 pound winch. I am running an aluminum manifold and headers so that saves me close to nintety pounds . Also should a resess the winch so that it doesn't block airflow to the radiator or is this relatively minor. It will be used for towing my boat in the mountains and ocasional four wheeling. 1976 cherrokee 360 with tow package.

Thanks for any suggestions
