Seats Finished and Installed today.
Wayne did a great Job. He also covered the kick panels after I got them cut to size.
Still have to paint the steering column, wheel and shifter. I am doing it the hard way, but I did not want to let them sit out in the garage and he finished his part before I did mine. Like everywhere else it is too cold to paint.
New Seats Belts came yesterday.

They replaced and tightened all the springs. Sand Blasted the frame and then painted it.

Sure is nice to see a REAL restoration by a fellow who's doing it out of pride of a job well done, not a slap happy rehab by someone looking to bilk rich dummies outta 30 grand for a few grand worth of work and materials. Excellent work, you're setting a high benchmark with this one!

You suck Incredible job. Those seats and door panels look better than factory! The paint is WAY better than factory. I won't ever be able to do anywhere NEAR the job your'e doing. You make all Jeep trucks very proud. |

Many Thanks for all the comments.
Seat Covers, Door Panels and Kick Panels were done by a local shop. He used the old seats to make new patterns. I will try and find out the fabrics he used. The vinyl is a pretty heavy thickness. The complete job was $500. When I say he spent days doing it, I am not overstating the amount of time he put in them. Other than helping trim the kick panels when they were bare (the Gladiator was at my house), all I did was install the panels and seats after the job was done. I have more shots of the work he did on my link.
The Great Feedback has been very rewarding for all the time and money I have in this project. My wife is really starting to like the way it is turning out. (she thinks the seats look like American Graffiti) I can tell everyone here that this site has made all the difference in how this has progressed. I have gotten emails from others here about some hard to find NOS parts (like the gas tank filler hose kit for a thriftside - when have you seen these?) or the offer of a crack free steering wheel. This truck is far from perfect, the paint has some issues in a few places, but overall it is pretty good. As far as trying to sell it to some smuck for 30K, I am sure I would be lucky to break even. As I have said from my first post, I like the original look, I am building it to make me happy and I am not very interested in having some car show judge tell me what is not correct or what needs to be improved. It will be pretty much a trailer queen - no off road (I may jump a curb.  ) I really like everything I see on this site. I like the way these FSJ have been made to work better off road than Jeep ever imagined. I like the way many of the people on here have taken nothing and have made something. I am not trying to kid anyone here, I have thrown money at this project (others have been paid labor at times to push this along and free me up to do my real job). It was not always this way for me (I used to live in salvage yards.) and very easily it could never happen again (High Risk = High Reward). I think my next project could be a Wagoneer, lifted, roll cage, Military OD Green or a M715. I better finish this first, take some time off and see where I am and what is out there. I can promise that I will be heading West, I don't want to deal with rust issues again!! |
