Yup..sounds like it. I have a receipt somewhere from the PO of my J10, he paid $500+ for carb tuning to get the truck to pass smog, but it was only $30 in parts.

Sheesh, he got ripped big time. $1000.00 is more than what most of us pay for a complete rig.

I agree with Mike...they hosed him down and put him up wet with the labor charge.
I know people who would pay $1000 for that. Especially once the mechanic started talking about seperating the tranny from the motor. Right about then, they'd stop the wrencher and say "OK OK...how much and where do I sign?"

1,000 seems about right if he took it to a stealership, pun intended. Probably about 300 total for the starter including parts& labor, whatever the cost of the flex-plate is then whatever labor is involved. disco both d-shafts, drop the crossmember and slide the tranny back just enough then put it all back together.

Geeze, for all the money he spent on that in 4 months, he is going to take a bath on the whole deal.

I like-a da truck. It's got a lift on it too...guy probably doesn't even know it. If it was just 500 miles closer, I'd hit that one.

He must have taken a very interesting route between Chico and San Diego to make the round trip 1800 miles. And I'm sure it's not a quadratrac - his comment was "my research indicates." Must be a typical Chico student . . . researching a different kind of material . . .

His plans have changed, so he is moving back east-ie., he dropped out after blowing all his parent's college money on the Jeep (and beer).
I'm also very interested in this "removed front drivetrain". I see a driveshaft on the tailgate. That would barely afffect mileage.
Other than that, It's a nice looking truck, and a good score whoever gets it.
Don't laugh-I lived in Chico for awhile and went to school there. Yes, many there were just as clueless. About 20% of the freshman class dropped out after the first year. Too much . At least I made it to the end .

No one has said anything about the front bumper.
Wonder what make/model of bumper this is?
Is it a commercial bumper or home made?
Kinda/sorta looks like it is of a Warn design?
Maybe something like a Ford unit modified for a FSJ?
Anyways, I like it! Looks nice!

Did they use serp belts in '83 Dem's not V belts on there, that's for sure.
It's a nice looking Cherk. The flares look solid, it's got 4" of lift, that front bumper's sweet, clean looking interior...one of you Cali boys or girls oughta jump that thang.
