I get mixed results about my ride. Some people really love it, the idea of fixing up an old vehicle triggers some sort of nostalgia. Others are elitest about their car culture, not realizing what an important contribution AMC made to the industry (first AWD, for example) or how many hard-working good people depended on it as a workhorse. If it's not a Pontiac or Chevy, people don't give it a second thought.

I've been lucky that repairing my wag has been as practical as it has been fun. Why spend $20-30k on a new car when worst-case scenario I need a longblock for 2k or a rebuild for 5? And if something goes wrong on my Jeep, it's not that hard to fix. My mom's crown vic has 19 bolts on the timing cover. Jeep? Well, you can count them on one hand.

My parents, the PO, several times pulled loser offroaders out of sand, water, mud, you name it; I get offers all the time from people on it. In fact, our UPS guy had a GW and was always sharing stories and actually tried to buy our wag for parts several times.
Glad to hear you know what yours is worth!

I really hope that this one poser lifted TJ will eventually come out on the trails with us someday. And I hope I am right there to pull that stupid underpowered toy out of trouble.

Just keep moving his jeep around, with your jeep, in the parking lot a few spaces everyday so he thinks hes going insane and gets commited.

Unless I missed it in the previous posts, but why would a student have $200 on him at school?

I had my j-10 at Bloomsburg Pa. 4wd jamboree a few years back and a buddy of mine was there with his big ch*vy. He laughed and said "why don't you sell that old, rusted out pos and get yourself a ch*vy). I said "why, so I can be like everyone else here?" There was close to 800 trucks there and probably 10 fsj's. Everywhere you looked was Ford, ch*vy, Toyota, baby jeeps, and Dodges, HOW BORING IS THAT? I asked. It shut him up and made him understand my insanity bit more.
The best for me was when I was down I-95 in Phila. and a bunch of kids with Ontario plates gave me the and took cellphone pictures as we were cruising side by side. I wish I could see how they turned out.

Would'nt trade the jeep for the world.

I've had the "Chief" for over 5 years, never really had anyone comment on it....well exept for the school bus comments. Until this december, off-roading with a few buddies and one of them looks at the "Chief" turns around and calls it "old school". I guess he's right My FSJ and I are old school and proud of it!!

Exclamation heh

heh while i had mine the first time i had no looks from anyone.. at that time it looks like it ran head to head with a train and won.. only time i got any looks from people was when i pulled them out of the ditches with a lil ice on the road with it. unfortuneatly it died and i had to sell it to a buddy for a100 bucks ( he REALLY wanted it bad) and the city was fixing to impound it.. some stupid rules about not having fixer uppers in city limits or something like thati kicked myself in the bum ever since.. just got it back last week and scrambling to get some cash together to get it fully running again .. needs a t-case. and a new floor... and a new rear window set up .. it falls down every time it hits a bump.. witch is the reason it has no floor. other then that i will NEVER NEVER NEVER get rid of it again . the city laws can go to hell.

I am pretty sure I would have handled this a bit differently, you have to have a quick wit and spiked tongue in these situations. I can think of one of the top of my head,"ITs strange that you have such a problem with my rig cause your girl loves my big backseat." or "Is this payment for future pulls, because I think your a little short." for the environazis I like to say that my Jeep is a movement in international relations, I am trying to keep those poor Arab oil drillers fed, so in fact I am almost performing charity work by driving this thing. Just my thoughts but I have alot of time on my hands waiting for something to break.
