Hood pins?
Hi all,
I tried searching real quick, but couldn't find what I was looking for.
Has anyone installed hood pins (like old musclecars have) on their FSJ?
My entire latch assembly is FUBAR. The cable snapped last year, and I've always had issues with the double-latch assembly not opening the hood.
So, I removed the right-side spring latch and now the hood floats up and down when I drive on the highway. The last thing I need is the hood coming up and kissing the windshield @ 70mph.
Short version:
I need to know what size (length/height) hood pins work for a FSJ.
Thanks.

I don't have any pictures of them, but I used to have hood pins on one of my old Cherokee's, worked great, but there is no saftey catch. If you forget the clips, the hood will fly open at speed, ask me how I know .
I used the basic generic parts store ones, like Mr.Gasket brand etc. The basic kit will have long enough pins, I don't think I've ever seen different length options for them. They are not hard to install on our FSJ's, and you've listed every reason to use them, stupid hood release cables

Change of subject: Are you the guy who won the "Makeover" for your Jeep? Any progress of that?

you can use hood latches like found on a m715. I think there's a build up in the offroad tech with a truck with some.

I got mine from JC Whipme for $4.99 each plus shipping. They work... I can attest that they will keep the hood down at 90mph. My problem with them is that the springs squeaked really bad... even at idle. I still use them but only for cosmetic reasons now as I have installed a cable latch from the junkyard.
Here is a decent shot of one.. latched
Sorry for the gratuitious use of my lift pic... but I just love seeing it that way.

Just pick up a set at your local roundy round shop. They are less than $10/pair.

I'm the "Yooper Pimp Daddy"
Here's an after shot,
I posted the results and such back in mid September, probably a few pages back now. How does a person go about linking to the original post?
Thanks,
baja

Baja, I found the post yesterday. Jeep looks great.
I picked up a set of 'pins from AutoZone for $11.99. They look long enough to mount where the stock springs go. If not, I'll figure something out.
Thanks for the help, guys.
Brutus, your J-Truck looks SICK!
