getting ready to order lift...witch one?

alright im ordering a lift kit with my permanent fund and im having troubles decideing witch kit to get..i have stock j20 springs with the 8400gvw and i know anything well be better than what i got..but im looking for the absolute softest ride possible. im looking at skyjackers 4" "softride kit" witch pretty much says that its soft but its 1100$ for that aposed to bjs offroad kit witch i could get a six " kit for around 765$ but i heard they were alittle stiffer sooo does anybody have any experience or knolegde with both the kits as far as how "soft" or how good they take bumps on and off the road..also witch shock works best for a good ride...nitro or hydro...ohhhh decisions decisions thanks

i have a 4 inch rustys kit in my 82j20 it eats nuts if i was to do it again i would by the BJS 6 inch kit..............................but thats just my 0.2..................theres also the option of just doing a shackle flip in the back with the some waggie springs and ordering some bjs 6ers for the front........ thats what im doing ...............or a spoa the list goes on.................

well IMHO I believe that a j truck will ride like a buck board with any spring set up, the springs are stiff regardless, the rear springs anyway, the front are really soft and wear out bad...

a 6" all spring lift will be a really rough ride, the springs have a lot of arch in them and are pretty stiff even on a wag, breaking the springs in good will help out a lot but with that much arch it takes some time. Just flex the truck out as much as possible and leave it flexed for several minutes before changing sides, do that multipul times and it will break them in good.

to get a more livable ride in a j truck you could add a few hundred pounds to the back of the bed, maybe where the spair tire is located? the extra weight just keeps the springs from beeing sooo springy...


doing a shackle flip in the back and using some Wag springs will do the trick also...

I have the 6" on my 79 cherokee which was my daily driver (and will be again when put back together). It breaks in to a nice ride within a few weeks if you follow the instructions. The softest ride out there is with a Skyjacker, but many folks find it hard to justify spending almost 2x the cost for a complete Skyjacker kit. For me, I'd save the money and go with a 6". There have been hundreds of posts / threads about the softness / ride quality where you can read what owners said. Also, depending on where you live you might find another IFSJA member locally that has the kits installed on their rig, and you can go for a ride.

Yeah, do a search.... There are TONS and TONS of posts titled the same thing.

As far as the "a j truck will ride like a buck board with any spring set up" comment... That is just not true... Almost ANY spring set will be WAY softer than your 8400gvw spring set...

i figured anything well be better but i heard that once the bjs kit it throughly broke in its not that bad of a ride..but really how much better could a sj softride be...? this is my dailydriver ive conciderd a soa but woudnt have the time being its my dd. i like using it for trail riding lots of rocky trails with ruts and pot holes...i did a seach but didnt quite get what i was looking for...anybody who has any experience with both the kits know how good they take the kind of riding i do? i mean these kits they absorb most bumps dont they?
