Weight of rear of Wagoneer versus weight of front of XJ?
Trying to figure ride height/spring rate stuff for rear coils on a wag. I know what some people are running but I want real numbers.
I am looking at BTF's stand alone coil mount kit to do my rear coils and mount them between the frame and axle.
Stock XJ coils are about 13 3/4 inches long uncompressed.
Need the ride height measurement.
My rear originally set at 15 3/4 from bottom of frame to top of axle tube.
See where I'm going with this? It makes sense to me but I don't always translate well thru the keyboard.
I know the rear of the wag is much lighter with no engine, plus I will be bobbing the rear after the links. This is still in the future. Just preplanning.
Nick (Orangecherokee) is running 5.5" progressive rate front Bronco coils (or something near that) in the rear but they are mounted outside the frame and the top of the coil is welded near the top of the frame and I want to be between the frame and axle.

Well if your distance between the frame is 15, and the coils are 13, then you have 2 inches to play with. You could build some mounts that are 1 inch thick each and that would put you at the same height your at now, with the spring un compressed. So you will be lower once the weight is put on it. So go ahead and make the mounts, put the stock XJ coils in there, see how mutch they compress with the weight on them. ok, hypotheticaly lets say they compress 4 inches, so now just go out and buy some 4in lift coils and ta da, you at the height you want. But this is just all speculation, things may or may not work out as easy as that, it probably wont. Thats just the way that wild germlin ran through my head.

This won't really work because they are lift coils for the weight of the front of an XJ with a motor in it. The rear of an FSJ will weigh less than the front of an XJ especially after I bob it.
That's why I need weights and measures.
Kinda tough to figure and be right without doing and redoing.

I don't have the front/rear weight but here are some spring specs:
OEM is supposedly 147 lb/in rate.
Tera 4" TJ coils give 4.5" of lift on an XJ and have a 200 lb/in rate , 20.25" tall unloaded
Tera 3" TJ coils give 3.5" of lift on an XJ and have a 170 lb/in rate
Rusty's 4.5" coils give 5" of lift and have a 150 lb/in rate, 22" tall unloaded
Rustys 3" coils give 3" and have 150 lb/in rate.
RE's 4.5" ZJ coils give 6"-6.25" of lift on an XJ and have a 200 lb/in rate, 22" tall unloaded
RE's 5.5" = 220lbs/in per RE
RE's = 180lbs/in per Dave Nay
RE's ZJ 5.5" = 240lbs/in per Crash
Rancho 3" coils, at least the old coils give about 2 1/4" of lift on an XJ and have a very high 235 lb/in
rate.
Rancho 3" = 240lbs/in per Rancho
Skyjacker 8" = 270lbs/in per Crash
You could probably compare to our rear spring rates to see what might work

Just promise to post pics when it gets finished. I would love to do front coils but it is well beyond my budget.
