Help, can't find part!

Hi everyone,
I am trying to find the solenoid that is near the carb, right next to the curb idle screw. In my "Haynes" manual, they call it a "TSP solenoid."

What are other names for this, and where in the heck can I find one?

Synonyms: Fast idle solenoid, anti-dieselling solenoid, idle up solenoid, idle solenoid, idle stop solenoid. I'm looking up part numbers now.

What's yours doing?

Part Numbers:

Jeep J812 0480
Wells E400 (NLA at AutoZone)
AC Delco 214-1575
Napa doesn't list one, but I'm sure they have it.

You can also take the part to any Ford dealer and they can match it up to any Ford equipped with a Motorcraft 2100 or 2150. I suggest a 1980 Ford F-100 with a 302.

Wow, you all are so awesome!

OK, I found out from the original Jeep part # that the old # has been superceded to 83505563.

Believe it or not, it IS available at the Jeep dealership for $20.00!
YAY!!!!

Thank you sooooooooo much!!!

(The Autozone computers here show it as unavailable...go figure)

I'm gonna hit Napa up in the AM first, it is a much shorter drive.
I have put so much $ into her this past couple of weeks but she is totally worth it. :-)

Thanks again, to all of you, for all of the help you give to me!! (The Beast thanks you too!)

Before you do that, *how* is yours sticking?

Also, "NLA" means No Longer Available.

It stays depressed...won't loosen back up, etc...

I couldn't figure it out, a trusty mechanic I know did. Took him awhile to track it down. He can manually move it and get it to unstick, but it won't do it on its own, at all.

OK, even with power applied, it stays retracted?

FYI, this only affects idle. If you have off-idle problems, this won't fix it.

MAJOR idle problem...when ya mess with it, it stops, then it gets stuck, and idle an absolute mess!!!

Checked the voltage at the connector? You should be getting a full 12V.

You might be able to get some added life from it by squirting carb cleaner around the pintle and seeing if that loosens it up. Even so, solenoids in general seem to wear out after many years, and stick or become weak. (my theory - heat and oxidation raises the resistance of the wire in the coil, making it weak. Same thing happens to old ignition coils).

For $20, if it's easily available I'd replace it.

Uh oh.

Chrysler discontinued the part. A parts search of ALL of their parts dealers nationwide didn't turn up a single one.

Oh...I am hating this!!!!!!!!

It's a Ford part. Go to a Ford dealer.

Will the steering column let you turn off the engine with the selector in drive? The solenoid prevents run-on by closing the throttle to less-than-idle when you turn off the key. If you remove the solenoid and adjust the idle stop up to compensate, you can leave the car in drive when you turn the key off, and the extra drag of the transmission will help prevent run-on.

Standard lists it: http://www.smpcorp.com/web_app/catalog/images/ES13.jpg
ES-13. Lots of differnt parts stores carry Standard Ignition, and any of them should be able to get it for you. They have a dealer locator too http://www.smpcorp.com/web_app/spc/spc.asp
