Why are you going with the stock front springs in the back?

A lot of people have gone with the 56" chevy springs since they are longer with better flex.

Sounds like a nice build. I've got a bunch of those parts lying on the shop floor! hopefully yours will be running before mine.

The stock rear springs are 56", which means better flex, why do you want to shorten them? Heck a lot of people switch to 62" chevy rear springs for better flex still. Although with the 14FF and the way the carrier is, even if the spool blew up, I dont think it could hurt the gears much, any pieces of size would stay inside the carrier center.

I used the 62" Chevy springs and gained about 8 inches of wheel base on a spring over. The springs are flat and have flex...a lot of flex.

I am running 4.56 gears and it appears to be a good combination with the 38.5 SX's.

Why go the spool and question it? I have a Detroit, and 4.56 gears from a spare military 14 bolt. The price will be right.

well a mini spool will hold up to 38's. i had one in a d44 with 5.38 gears and ran fine! so for a 14 bolt m/spool if you think you can blow one up,more power to ya! i have been pretty hard on my welded 14 bolt with 4.56's and aint even hurtin it one bit
oh i also run 38"hawgs or 39"boggers and trust me you should save for at least 4.56's...4.10's kinda lag!

That is just about the same combo I'm assembling, but with a different engine and transfer-case.

If you find an FSJ TF727, you can bolt up that D300 without any special adapters; may be just as easy as gutting the TH400 and getting the D300 adapter, if you're starting with the stock TH400/QT combination.

sounds like a great plan for a trail rig,but i dont think id want to tow something with something with 38s and that soft of a suspension.

im not much for "multi-purpose" daily driver/trail/tow/etc. trucks,so build away, and get a more capable truck to haul it and/or the cj to the trail head
