i have a chance to get FOUR rim's with 35's mounted.
they are 35x12.5x16.5's (general grabbers)
guy wants 120 bucks for em. just right for my non-budget budget. i've gotten warnings about the lack of a safety bead...but others have said just run em and watch your tire pressure...
so, what do you think? am i asking for trouble?
i'd really like to run 35's on my j10 with the new lift, and i don't really ever "AIR DOWN".
i have done fine @ street pressures on the stuff i do.
lookin for personal experience, not myth....lol

I don't know how they are when aired down, but my fathers 79 K20 ran 33x16.5"s for about 4 years with no problems, and he wheeled and loaded the heck out of it. If you don't air them down I wouldn't worry about it.

Thats what I run on my Chief. I heve aired them down to about 20psi MANY times, and have had NO PROBLEMS...
I say get-em, thats a great price even if there is very little tread left...

20psi isn't really low tire pressure though. I think you'd probably be fine all the way down to 10-12 depending on how stiff the sidewalls are and whether or not you plan on doing donuts. Hard turns will pop beads on anything (cept maybe beadlocks )
If the price is right get em. Can always get something else later.

I know that 20psi is not very low, but remember, we are talking about 16.5s here

Yep I bought a set of dang near brand new BFG mud terrains ta/km's with aluminum wheels for 450. 35x12.50x16.5 I dang near stole them at that price, I looked up the tires and they would be around 700 new. The wheels that they came with wouldnt fit my axles so I sold them and just bought a set of hummer 12 bolt wheels. Gonna have them re centerd to run on my non dually axles and buy some of the pvc bead locks for them.
I would say go for it.

I'll umteenth the "go for it" since you will not be airing down.
I ran 35" General Grabbers for several years on my Willys truck and really liked them.
Just to be sure though, since the 16.5" rims I usually see are 8 lug.
These would be a 6 lug version to fit your J10?
(I'm sure they make a 16.5", 6 lug rim, just would seem to be not very common).

Nice score!
The cool thing about those 16.5 rims is you can run 37" humvee tires when those 35's wear out. They are available through military surplus or internet sources and it is the standard size for Hummers that the army uses.. If you look around, you can get 4 of 'em for cheep!

Hope you picked them up. 16.5's are not a real issue unless you want to run really low pressure.

Hummer tires can be had for REAL cheap, and if you want to air them down when you get some 8-lug axles, you can run factory rims that DO have the safety bead:

Factory 16.5's do have safety beads? Cool, I didn't know that.

I have always wondered WHY they dont put saftey beads on 16.5? They do on almost every thing else, but not 16.5's. And most all 16.5's come on like 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, you would think they would want a saftey bead cause they carry and pull more weight.

Most all trucks run bias ply tires. Radials are what really need the safety beed. A bias ply at 40psi+ doesnt need one as much, as it never gets air down, and there is less stress applied to the wheel. Wheels designed specifically for a bias ply only are weaker than a wheel designed for a radial.

I used to run 38,5 SX's on 16,5 rims. Aired down to 8 - 10psi without loosing tires.
But the SX's are very stiff tires.
When I aired down to 4-5 I lost tires from time to time.
But thats an easy fix on the trail
